I am new to this forum and would like to extend my greetings to all its members and at the same time seek your advise on an issue I am having.
I recently bought a 2003 4Runner, after years of driving all kinds of older LandCruisers models. Overall I am very happy with my purchase but I must admit I am a little overwhelmed with all the electronic gadgets. And here is my first problem: I noticed that the window in the tailgate started acting up, so I took off the interior panel to investigate. As it turns out corrosion had set in and destroyed one of the 2 rails that guide the window up and down. Motor is still working but the cables have come off the corroded and seized pulleys, to make it short the system is toast. So I dismantled it in order to replace it with a new window regulator. After temporarily bracing the glass to keep it closed and shutting the tailgate I noticed that the electronic latch mechanism has stopped working although I plugged it back into the ECU. It had worked fine before I took out the window regulator. My question now: Is the latch connected to some window sensor and if so, how do I override this function in order to normally operate the latch? I read here somewhere that it might be necessary to reset the ECU, but is this even possible when the window regulator is missing? Any suggestions on how to open the hatch, short of using a crowbar, would be appreciated. Thank you.
