Tailgates?

I've searched and found some ideas on 4th gens but I haven't found anything for the 3rds. Has anyone built a functional tailgate? Something to sit on or pull out and work on conveniently. Before my runner I had a truck and I used to use the tailgate like a saw horse, lunch table, for stargazing with the ol' lady etc.

I'm guessing it can be incorporated into a storage platform easily. Or maybe not since I haven't seen it. It would be nice to be able to support more than 300lbs so 2 people could safely sit back there.

Ersatz tailgate options

I haven't seen any custom builds for 3rd gens either, but there are some generic options out there. Seems to me that if you have some welding skills you could rig up something similar for seating and/or table options.

That look's like a good place to start modifying and you're probably right it would have to be metal to support the load.
