Dude, your sister made a bad trade...i love CRVs!!! Actually, i had a 1997 CRV when it first came out...amazing and ultra-reliable SUV! Never had a problem in the 99,700 miles i had on it...solid as the day i bought it. The 2005 CRV is very nice...you should keep it a long time...it is a keeper IMO. I actually like it more than the current version. The CRV was what got me interested in SUV...and, surprisingly, off-roading!

Oh yeah, i see your point...but, damn, i love the 2nd gen CRV! How many miles on your CRV?

Thanks, yeah I think she made a really bad trade too! I love my little Blue CR-V! I could see myself keeping this thing for many many years, you never know. It's really the perfect balance of comfort, space, safety, and decent mpgs (~23 in the mountains where I live and ~30 on the open road). It has 110K which is a lot for an '05, but it runs like a top. And the best part is, I know it has been maintained very well because my Dad did all the maintenance on it during the 5 years she had it. Here's a pic (it even has some sweet upgraded factory wheels)...

Well I think you're right that you simply can't compare today's cars with those from the past, the quality and technology has definitely improved. My point was that I think it's funny that people sell their current cars and spend $10s of thousands more to get 10 mpgs better. And I think most do it and justify their purchase by the fuel economy alone.

I just think it's funny that people will spend say $10K before they just do some simple math in their head. So... maybe I'll save $50 a month, times 12 months so that's $600/year in gas savings. $10,000 divided by 600 = 16 1/2 years of owning their hybrid (or whatever) before they break even. That's really what my point was, people are pretty much idiots and the automakers' marketing depts. know it.

I totally agree with this. My 4runner gets 19mpg and I drive 50 miles round trip to work three times a week. I was thinking about buying an economy car, Nissan Versa, that gets in the mid 30s on the highway but I did the math - it just wasn't worth it! I currently spend $36 a month on insurance and about $100-150 a month on gas, this is way cheaper than buying a $16,000 economy car and paying $100 or so a month for insurance just to save $50 on gas a month!!!

To the original point, take a look at past winners. I'm very entertained that you don't see some of those past winners on the road because they were such POS's.

We will all own a hybrid or electric vehicle in our lifetime. We can probably all agree to that. The Volt is a first step and for GM's sake I hope it proves to be reliable and successful. I'll never own one, but maybe it will contribute to the vehicle I buy later in life.

For now, I love my GX470 with it's V8 and I will enjoy it for as long as I can. Thing's got everything I need. I don't put many miles at all so mileage isn't a concern.
