Talk me out of getting a new versa please

Don’t worry I’m not dumping my 4Runner for a Versa! But I have an urge to see how much of a stonkin under invoice deal I can wig up on the “last econobox standing”.

Mind you, this would be sort of an impulse/vanity/treat myself buy because I want a manual transmission vehicle to go along with the 4runner but don’t want to deal with used Subaru Wrx’s and the new ones are not worth the price.

Tell me why this is a bad idea as a single person who doesn’t currently have a daily commute!!!!

For econo box consider Toyota, Honda or Mazda.

Had a Versa loaner in 2014. Had unintended acceleration. My leg strength on brake pedal was stronger than the engine.

I don't really see how buying a versa is "treating yourself" in any sort of way. Treating yourself badly maybe. You can't compare driving that to driving a wrx; even if the subaru has it's problems it would actually provide some fun(at the cost of mpg) and the versa will only provide fuel economy.

Even if you were doing it to save fuel and don't have any long commute, you will never make up the cost of the car in fuel savings. I also don't care for driving a manual anymore if I don't need to because there is no advantage anymore with how good current autos are.

hey, I can relate, kind of. lol at the comments. OP I was in a similar position as you, I wanted to buy an old miata as a project car. manual trans, fun car. I looked at the few that were in good shape around and said forget it - invested the money in the S&P 500. I suggest you do the same if you have idle cash
