talk me out of trading up to a 5th gen!

I caught the car shopping bug lately since a close friend of mine bought a new truck (taco). I've owned a 3rd gen, switched over to an 07 taco, back to a 4th gen 07 limited (what I currently own now), and have been looking at 5th gens. found a 2010 mag gray sr5 that caught my eye. 52,000 miles on the clock listed at 27,500. not sure what they're listing at nowadays but will look it up. talk me out of it!! :crybaby:

If you don't take your vehicles off road then spend your money however you want. If you do take them off road, it's a lot easier to stomach pin stripes and trail damage on a mostly paid for/paid for vehicle. Just my opinion.

i'm 95% on pavement. Just having a hard time deciding if it's worth the extra car payment....:redbrick:. do i want to drop money modding a 4th gen or trade up and slowly mod a 5th? :noidea:

With a 60k difference in mileage and for the money involved, my two cents is that you're better off with a vehicle that will last 400k and is in the middle of the generation than you are with the first year of a new generation. I could be wrong but its been my experience that first years suck.

I'm sure I'll catch some flack for this.. If you've got a car shopping bug for a new SUV, then you should go with a new Jeep SRT8. Otherwise you should keep your 4th gen. The 4th gen is unparalleled in the consistency of its quality, reliability, and general baddasery. The only thing is aftermarket parts compared to a Jeep, but that is no real issue. There are plenty of great, well thought out goodies for the 4th gen.

I consider getting a 5th gen all the time, but then I realize my truck is broken in both inside and out. I would be too worried about getting scratches and dings on it. Don't have to worry about that with my 06!

you're absolutely right. my 4th gen has been nothing but reliable and has been nothing but good to me. haha, if i had the money, SRT8 would be somewhat on my list. Now you guys got me leaning back towards keeping it and waiting a couple years to upgrade. I think I'm just gonna see what the dealer offers and go from there.

I traded my 4th for a 5th. I couldn't be happier. The 4ths have their issues and the 5ths probably will too but I have more faith in the refinements to the 1gr and the rest of the drivetrain compared to my 2005. My 05 had a tape deck... is it 1992?

Toyota likes to tease their trucks... I'm pretty excited to see the new Taco, considering it hasn't had a major redesign in 10 years.

I've had both and they're almost the same thing to be honest, not worth the effort of switching. Once I got Bluetooth audio/phone and satellite radio I can't really see why I bought a 5th in the first place, I should have just gotten a 4th and saved some money.

The 4.0L in the 5th gen just makes up for its weight gain so it's no difference in performance at all. Wait a couple years and see the 6th gen.

Yeah, the taco is comin with a redesign and the unveiling is jan 12th I believe. I would love to get back into one. I think you all are right. I should wait. I wish I would have went with the V8 though! Thanks guys.

Very true. I guess I'm more about the redesign than anything. Plus, I think I would miss my leather/heated seats and nav.

I have also been contemplating trading up to a 5th gen. But my 4th gen only has 114k miles on the clock and is paid off. Better to save for a few more years and enjoy the durable longevity that our trucks are known for. Besides, I am curious to see how well it runs when I reach 200k.

I'm glad you posted this because I have the very same bug! My 07 has a lot of mods I like, though there's more to be added, I just don't want to start all over again.
I do agree with others about the scratches and how it's a bit easier to swallow when its not new. Plus, for me, I'm a bit selfish and I don't want to give up a truck that's been nothing buy loyal to me and spot someone around town driving it.
