talk me out of trading up to a 5th gen!

I'd look at it this way.. You know your 4th gen. You know what is and isn't wrong with it. For all you know, you could buy that 5th gen and then have to dump a ton of money into it to fix something because the dealer refuses and it isn't covered under whatever lemon law warranty your state may have... That's my .02 cents.

Just from looks alone, the 5th gen is not a "trade up".

I agree with all replies to keep your truck and wait to see what 6th gen looks like… but when it comes to “new car” bug it can easily overpower any logical approach and reason..

For me, besides degrading power train options in 5-th gen vs. 4th gen, purely from looks point of view (obviously very subjective): first 4 years (2010-2013) of 5-th gen 4Runner are most hideous 4Runner ever made (with exception of Trail edition);

Train edition from 2010-2013 has a totally different looks to it (which I like) and all current models of 4Runner (2014 +) are almost has the same appearance… with exception of overdone front… that also got longer (overhang) by what look like 2-3 inches… not sure why Toyota would do that…?

Anyway, good luck to you with any decision you will make!

besides the payment, id love a 5th gen. They actually look aggressive not effeminate like the 4th gens. Beefier and rougher. No reason not to.

Love the 5th gen looks and such. But I would agrree with everyone....first year of new model(-), bigger vehicle(+) but not more power to handle the bigger vehicle(-), 4th gen is modified(+), you aren't looking at a TRD PRO(-), the TRD PRO is crazy expensive and it would be cheaper to do the mods yourself(-).

But at least go for a ride in them...:lookout:

I have also been contemplating trading up to a 5th gen. But my 4th gen only has 114k miles on the clock and is paid off. Better to save for a few more years and enjoy the durable longevity that our trucks are known for. Besides, I am curious to see how well it runs when I reach 200k.

I'm glad you posted this because I have the very same bug! My 07 has a lot of mods I like, though there's more to be added, I just don't want to start all over again.
I do agree with others about the scratches and how it's a bit easier to swallow when its not new. Plus, for me, I'm a bit selfish and I don't want to give up a truck that's been nothing buy loyal to me and spot someone around town driving it.

I'm the same way! Definitely selfish and it's hard to give up on such a reliable vehicle!!

I suggest you try to find a fairly low miles well kept 4th gen V8 instead.

Best SUV ever built IMO!!

Exactly one of my points I love about the 5th gens. Beefier and more rugged looking compared to the 4th gens

Before you buy a 5th gen, take it on the highway and up to 75mph. Where the 4th gen V8 is rock solid, the 5th will often start to shake, quiver, and complain.

No comparison on build quality.
