Tall drivers & the 2000 4Runner

Like some other tall drivers (I'm 6'4"), I've had difficulty in getting comfortable in my '00 4Runner. The seat just doesn't provide enough support for my legs near the knees. Once I figured this out, I started looking for solutions. I didn't want to spend a lot of money, in case it didn't work out. I ended up purchasing a Sparco Siena seat, with a WedgeEng adapter. This combo made it worse!

The adapter raised the seat so high that I felt cramped (I do have the sunroof). So I called WedgeEng about it, and after some communications back & forth, they said they could make an adapter that would be as low as it could go, but I would lose the height adjustment and the seat would have a permanent tilt to the rear. But at this point I wanted to fix this problem!

Here's what it looks like:

Here's a closeup of the adapter. Notice that there are no height adjusting brackets.

Conclusion

Well after a year of use I can honestly say that this is a definite improvement. We went on a trip from Long Island to western PA, and I had no problems at all (except for a tired butt from all that driving!).

Is it the solution to our my problem?

Not entirely.

Now that I have it adjusted to where my legs are comfortable, I find that the steering wheel is too far from me. So I'm contemplating asking a nearby hotrod shop if they could machine an extension for my steering wheel. Something that is NOT to be taken lightly, considering the airbag contained within.

It's better, but it still is not as good as my '90 felt.

do you really have that many problems with the seat? i am 6' 3" and have found out how to sit to where on long drives ( i just did a gainesville, fl to manchester, tn run (8hrs) ) and dont have any issues

I'm 6'4" and have a sunroof in my '02 and don't have too many problems. My head does graze the top where the sunroof tracks are, but otherwise it's pretty comfortable. And I don't have my seat leaning all the way back like that.. that would drive me crazy, not to mention look rediculous.

get some racing seats.

I had a del Sol as my second car, and it came with stock bucket seats, and I was driving around my manager whose 6'5" and he was comfortable. His head still had about two inches before it hit the roof top.

Notice that none of you have a '00. I fit perfectly in my '90!

For some reason the geometries of the '00 are different enough to give tall people problems.

regardless of the 00 or 02 or 01

they have the same interior options inless it was a 98.. 99-02 didnt really change anything in the interior including the seats.

Im 6'1 and friend is 6'5 and hes driven it quite a bit and hasnt had any problems.. its probablly the way you feel comfortable in. Whatever works best is what Id go for and each of us have our own seating pattern and driving style.
