Taxi Cab Challenges a 4Runner

Well, I learned last night to REALLY watch out for Taxi cab drivers in Atlanta. On my way home last night, a Taxi driver ran a red light and took a chunk off my drivers side front end. What really made me a little upset was the fact the driver was yelling at me because I ran the red light. But luckily the driver behind me and an off duty police officer saw the whole thing.

But it still sucks my pride and joy is wrecked. Yeah I know I need my , but I was seriously attached to my 4Runner more than I realized. After going to see her this morning, I have been quiet all day. Weird I know. I am happy that no one was hurt and know it could have been worse.

Anyway, if any one wants to see the air bag sensor, I put a picture on http://community.webshots.com/user/4runner2003 . Even thought the air bags didn't go off, and luckily so. That would have really scared the crap out of me.

But the good thing is the car was drivable. I think if I changed the tire, I could have driven home. But the police officer and I thought my truck was leaking anti-freeze fluid so I had it towed. But it ended up that my buddy was taking a leak behind the truck instead and we did not know that at the time.

Ok enough whining, I just had to vent a little

Sorry to hear about the wreck, but it's good that no one was hurt and that you had the police officer that saw the whole thing. Without the witnesses, you'd really have been up the proverbial creek.
 
Ouch, sorry to hear what happened. I'm glad that no one was hurt.

It's really amazing how attached you can become to a car, I know I would be devastated if something hppened to my 4Runner.

I hope everything turns out okay.
 
Man, I am so sorry. I remember you waiting months for that thing. It always has to happen to your new car doesn't it. I am glad no one was hurt.

I too am glad no one got hurt. I just want my truck back. And your right Peter, I did wait a long time for my 4Runner. Just think I special ordered it hmmmm, 1 year and a week ago. I just hope it does not take 5 months to get it repaired ;):

wow sorry to hear that...i know id be a mess if i banged up my baby....dont worry she will look good as new when its fixed....youll have to post some pics when its done
 
Scott, That's a major kick in crotch. And your baby is really loaded! I have the same config in an 04 less rear air susp and I had to wait for a broker to find it. Man, I can't tell you how pissed I'd be, especially if it was some other guys fault!

So this guy hit you when you were standing or were you moving? Had the light just changed? You sure are lucky you got witnesses.

So I wish I could alleviate your concerns but I can tell you from experience that cars I've had repaired rarely ever came back w/o a major malfunction or defect. The thing to be now is persistant, do not settle for anything less than perfection. This may mean much of your time and a lot of frustration. When it's all done and you're satisfied with the result think about unloading it as you'll never view your baby the same. Yea the VIN history will hurt you but if you're not too upside down in your loan you'll be gaining a rear view camera in an 04 or better! :)

Otherwise, always remember it's just metal and plastic and can be replaced...

THe light had changed, but you have to drive straight then turn. And I would have seen this guy if he wasn't flying through the intersection. Mechanically, I don't think there is anything wrong...I hope. I mean, I had to move the truck 2 times to get it away from traffic, then I had to drive it down the street into a parking lot (Very slowly) She felt rock solid.

The only thing missing is a bumper. There is really nothing in front protecting the radiator at all. I was kinda suprised not to see a little more metal up front. But hey, when I got hit, my truck barely moved. In fact, after I was hit, we did not think there was that much damage....until we got out.

But if there is frame damage, I'll probably suck it up....wait another 5 months on a new 4Runner. But I really think it will be in good shape in a couple of weeks. I hope
 
its actually good that it "blew up" the front...that will take most of the impact out of the accident...you'd rather have it explode off the car instead of absorbing the hit which would result you feeling it more...any pics of what the taxi looks like? hehe worse than you huh??:50cal:
 
Honestly, the cab did not look that overly bad. His whole drivers side of the car was pretty much bent end from the engine to the back door, but not that bad at all. Well I think the windows were shattered out the more I am thinking about it.

But I pretty much stayed with my 4Runner. I know what she was saying to the taxi and the driver though :bash:: I am still running and you are not :D ...with the exception of my flat tire....

For fewest days without damage - I win. We purchased an 04 V8 Limited on 12/31/03 and went skiing on 1/3/04. Only to return to the parking lot to find out :wtf: it had been hit. Nothing structural, but still looks like the front bumper cover and lower valance bumper will have to be replaced.

Good News - The person left their information. And everything will turn out good.

We had a 97 with much more damage than yours in the front end and it was fixed just fine. Be persistant and yours will be too.

Oh man, sorry to hear about that. You were lucky they left their information. It is good to know that there are good and honest people out there. But it still makes you mad that you have to deal with getting it fixed.

I do have one question for everyone. Since I have to have my hood replaced, do you think the hood scoop would look cool?

Now, my truck is naked. I went to the body shop to check up on her, and was a little suprised. But They will have it complete by Friday. Too bad I won't be home until the following Monday. And the hood scoop came in last Friday too. I think my first mod is costing only $5 bucks :D

I finally got my 4Runner back from the shop. The scoop cost me more than I thought ($150) but I think it was well worth it!!

I am surprised they had so much off in the front in order to fix it. It really turned out nice and I like the scoop. Really sharp, I am glad you got it back. (I also like the really nice looking SUV in the background too.:p )
 
HA!! I did nto even realize another 4Runner was in the background. It is awesome to have it back too. Now, am trying to think what else I can put on it :-)
 
Looks great in the pic, really like the scoop on an LTD, you're gonna confuse a lot of 4-runner owners!

On closer inspection you'll have to let us know if she still performs the same and how the detail on re-finish looks in the sunlight.

Can you also tell us what the total bill was? curious is all..

I will know a better performace results tomorrow because I am taking a trip from Atlanta to Knoxville then back (all in the same day....YUCK) for business. I did not want to rent a car because I have ahd a rental car for the past month. But so far, I have not noticed anything different. I do want to take some of the corners a little hard to see how the X-REAS reacts.

As for the total repair cost, here it is:

Total Labor: 3222.00
Total Parts: 5835.93
Total Sublet: 0.01
Total G.O.G.: 350.00
Total Tax: 433.02


Grand Total: 9840.96
 
Let's hope they stick that $10K repair job to that cab driver! And, BTW, isn't your neck and back really, really hurting?
