TB coolant bypass mod

Hi, Has anybody done the TB bypass mod on the 04 4R V8? I noticed today that it appears the coolent goes to the bottom of the TB then crosses over to the top of the TB then out to the coolant crossover pipe. I have done this mod on other cars but never have seen a setup like this before. Am I missing something? If I just connect the hose that goes into the bottom of the TB to the connection that the hose at the top comes out, will this work?

By the way, for those of you who don't know what this mod is all about, I will explain. Most auto companies route coolant through the TB so in extreme cases the throttle plate will not ice up and cause it to stick in extremely cold climates. I live here in New England and every car I modded, I have never or heard of the iceing problem. It may happen in Northern Canada or Alaska. The mod will prevent the TB from getting hot and heating the air, causing lower density and power loss. My previous car was a 01 Trans Am LS1 and the mod did net a slight gain.

same with my 96 LT1 Vette. nothing gained that noticeable.

Sorry to bring this back from the dead, but I came across this on my wife's TL and was wondering if anyone actually went through with this on the 4Runner? If so how'd ya do it?

At pep boys and home depot, they sell something called a barb coupling, made of either brass or plastic, which can be used to connect two hoses together, if they are close to the same internal diameter. I would imagine that would work perfectly, since the nature of the barb fitting is to grip the inner part of the hose very tight.

Still curious if the mod actually gives gains "

Dont' waste your time. There's nothing to gain from not routing the coolant through the throttlebody. It's not going to gain you power or make any difference in the coolant temps. It's just a waste of time.

Well I looked under my hood and figured out how to do it myself. So far can't tell any difference. I'm sure it helps though here in the middle of the Arizona summer, the less you increase your already hot intake air the better!

Plus I just did this on my wife's TL.
