TBU steel line replacement

i recall reading somewhere about replacing the steel lines that go from the caliper to the flex hose. is this correct? if yes, what have you guys used to replace the steel lines to make them flexible?

I just did this using Tacoma lines from Wheeler's off road, replaces the original hard line and rubber hose with 1 SS flex line, the connection at the caliper will now be a banjo fitting...the ones you want are for 1995-2004 tacoma TF BLINE-07

I just replaced one of mine because I broke it while maneuvering the caliper, but I used a hard line like the original. Out of curiosity, why are you going with a flexible line?

My reason to switch to the Stainless steel flex line was because the steel hard lines rust so easily in MN that every time I had to do the brakes I’d end up replacing the hard line. Just made sense to me.

The parts stores usually have pre-made lines in different lengths with Japanese flare and fittings done on both ends for $10. Just have to bend it yourself. That's what I did to replace all the hard lines.

The hard line and flex lines were original, was planning on swapping out the flex line anyway as part of the TBU so why not get rid of an extra connection.

For those who did this (1995-2004 Tacoma front lines), did you make use of that tab to secure the line? From the image provided above, it seems that member did not use that tab to fasten the line. A couple photos...

I have time to tackle this tomorrow. Thanks for any help you can provide...

I just zip tied the tab to the knuckle making sure the line had enough slack for full range of motion but also would not come in contact with the back of the wheel/tire.

I have not yet made the connection but it seems a bit long, so that's desirable. I am contemplating a bolt through that tab hole. Thanks for chiming-in.

Hey I know this is a super old thread but I'm trying to install these same tacoma lines and it doesn't seem to want to thread onto the brake fitting, curious if your hard line looking something like this? The problem seems to be with the unthreaded portion.

It has indeed been a while, so I wouldn't trust my memory, but it does look similar to the image you provided. Maybe in my maintenance/build thread there are more details and photos. A search there on Tacoma might narrow it down.... Sorry I can't help.

All good! Appreciate the reply, yeah the one side looks something like this and while it isn't leaking, I haven't bled the breaks and it seems like not enough threads, but it's tight tight.
