TE / SR5 headlights

Does anyone know if the headlights off of the TE will fit the SR5? I like the look of the TE's better and want to trade mine out. I know the hoods are easy to swap but can these change out too? Does anyone know a price for a new one off of the TE?

Jenn, if I had a TE I would swap out both items with you in a heartbeat! I like the TE, but I don't like the 'blackout' lights or the hood scoop...go figure. It makes good $$$ sense for Toyota to make ALL 5th Gen parts interchangeable...I don't think you'll have any problems with the lights.

If you are the adventurous type, you can remove your headlights, open the cases, and paint them flat black to make them look just like the Trail headlights. And it will only cost you a few bucks too.

Yes , they are a direct swap. They are held in by 3 10mm bolts and a alignment friction slot built into the body. However,you have to take the front bumper cover off to get to one of the bolts on the outboard side. The bolt goes thru that black support on the fender and holds the bottom in place.Not a very practicle design.They are going to be very pricey as they are big heavy headlight units.If I were to guess ,knowing how expensive Toyota parts are,upwards of $700-800 a piece or more.I already had them out to see.

These can not be opened easily because the plastic edges are permenantly sealed. They are like a light assembly inside a housing.The plastic is melted together by some machine along the edges and cannot be opened without cutting them open.
They can be cut open with a hot knife and then epoxied back together but only by pros who have done it alot.

Are you sure baking them in an oven won't work? I know it works for 4th gen headlight because it softens the epoxy (or whatever they use to seal them) and the outer lens can be separated from the rest of the housing.

Oven....I'm either not that brave or crazy enough plus they are way too expensive to play with in an oven and the only ones I have. If I get an extra set from a junkyard or Ebay someday,maybe. If I had an extra set I would probably send them off to Lightwerkz for a HID retrofit with S2K or TSX projector lens .I've seen his work and this dude is truely a headlight wizard.

Im already getting parts lined up for the HID mod. HOw much did you say each headlight cost if I buy right and left side?

I have a Phillips D2S HID bulb with a H11 base from my last 4Runner that I tried to put in to see. That's not gonna happen. About a 1/4" too long.

I don't know what new headlights cost as I just said "they will be pricey". Call your local parts dept and ask them. If I were to guess,knowing how expensive Toyota parts are, I'd say north of $750 a piece retail.

the guys who do this cut the back of the housing so the projector sticks out a little in back, then they seal it up.

I called up dealer. each light is $250. dont know how much trail versions cost. May use trails instead (unless housing is different with different mounts). As for the light being 'corrugated' instead of being sealed with that black stuff, anyone have close up pics of headlight assemblies edge? I saw them on your website Harper but couldnt see close enough.

Wow,$250 is pretty cheap.Not bad at all compared to all the plastic TE trim pieces. Trail versions should be the same price. Trail headlights have the same mounts.Pm'd you for a look at higher res pics.

I have no idea of the mark-up of these .I was suprised they are that cheap. I'll check on the TE ones tomorrow.

I'll shoot you some better pics when I take them back out in a week or two when my parts come in. I thought the same thing with those screws but they just hold the inner assembly to the outer assembly which is sealed.If your going to send them to Lightwerkz ,they'll open them up and do all the work anyways.Caesar is the man and is highly regarded.
I never took my 4th's headlights out as I just put a Phillips 4300K HID kit in them. I still have them and will just have to get some new bulbs as these were D2S bulbs reseated for the H11 of the 4th Gen.

I called the dealer parts dept. today to check on the Trail Ed. headlight prices . You are correct. They wanted $269.13 a piece and the part numbers are 81130-35530 for the left and 81170-35530 for the right.

The rear tail lights are $264.42 a piece.

Not too bad and a lot less the I expected.

If you order them online from ToyotaPartSales.com you can get them for $172 a piece. I've ordered a few things from that place before. Much cheaper then buying from your local dealer.
