TeamHeq’s Army Green TRDP Trips and Mods

Hey folks. I’m finally officially part of the 4Runner family. Here’s a thread for my new 2020 Army Green TRD Pro. We’re not new to Toyota’s though. Our previous vehicles was a Sienna for 10 years and a RAV4 for almost 9. We also picked up a Lexus GX470 this past summer when we sold our Sienna.

My kids have named the 4Runner, “Green Marine”. Yes, I’m a former US Marine (1998-2002).

I don’t have plans on heavy mods as I don’t plan on rock climbing. I plan on keeping it stock for the time being, with maybe getting the TRD CAI intake if there’s another big TRD parts sale in April. Our family goes camping several times a year, up to the mountains to play in the snow a couple times in the winter, and the extent of our off-roading will probably be some forest service roads. So a stock 4Runner is more than sufficient for our needs.

Here’s a list of my planned mods:

[Update] 2/12/20: Installed a TRD Cold Air Intake

Ordered the 6 parts to save some money instead of full TRD Cold Air Kit to save some money and so that I could use a different filter. I didn't want to use the TRD pre-oiled filter that came in the kit because I was paranoid about getting the MAF sensor dirty.

Instead, I'm using an AFE Pro Dry S Air Filter.

Here's the 6 parts that I ordered and I found the How-To-Guide (CAI) extremely useful

Performance:
I notice better response and accellerating, especially when coming from a stop or needing to get up to freeway speeds or passing someone.

Sound:
IMHO, it's not any louder during regular driving and it opens up when you get on the gas / WOT. Nothing obnoxious though, it's a perfect match with the TRD exhaust.

[edit update]: Had to accelerate hard/WOT when I wa merging onto the freeway a few days ago and oh my, what a surprise! The 4R roared like I never heard. My wife and kids were actually surprised and were like, what's that sound? Is everything ok? lol. Pretty much startled them.

MPGs:
I only drove on the freeway for 2 miles so far, so nothing to report there. But I've driven about 60 miles the past few days (almost all city - to and from work) and I'm getting 17 mpgs. Before I was in the 15's.
