Tech info on our new V8.

This is from the Tundra. Which all will be the same on the 4runner.I love reading this stuff.

You are welcome. It pretty much confirms its coming in all the V8 applications, since they are keeping the same model# of the engine as 2UZ.
 
A few observations:

-They are changing a few things from metal to plastic. Kind of makes me nervous. The fuel tank is going from steel to multilayer plastic, which may be lighter and even more resistant to damage if executed well, but I still wonder if they did this for weight, cost savings, or for technical advantages in the durability/damage resistance of the tank?

-They are changing the throttle body from aluminum to plastic. I can't see any reason why they would do this other than to save cost, since aluminum can be expensive. But now what are we going to do to clean the throttle body? Use something very nonabbrasive and then clean the rest of the system through the PCV valve or something?

-Everything else looks great and a lot of small improvements over the previous model (plus one big one, VVT-i!:D)

-Of the most notable of the minor improvements is the acoustic control induction system. My GS400 uses this and is amazingly silent in terms of noise from the air intake tract and such.
 
FWIW, Jeep Wranglers have had plastic gas tanks since 1997. As long as they have a steel skid plate protecting the underside, it shouldn't be any less safe than a steel one, possibly more.

Probably done number one for cost, steel is getting increasingly more expensive and difficult to acquire, and two, for weight savings.

My new Mercedes G500 also uses plastic fuel tank. These plastic tanks are made from multiple layers of plastic...so it's plenty strong (but lighter than steel tank). I think that it is indeed safer because if you puncture it, there's less chance of creating a spark...which could lead to KABOOM! Plastic is also more forgiving than steel if you do hit a rock...less chance of puncture.
 
plastic intakes seem to be quite superior, one reason is weight savings. They are designed to hold up to chemicals of all types trhat revolve arround gasoline engines as far as I have heard on other car forums.
For Thai, both our sl55 plastic tanks were recently recalled due to weird internal noises at the monster car fleet.
 
The attachments indicated that the 2004 V8 used "regular" spark plugs and the 2005 used iridium plugs for long life. I know that the 4runner V8's for 2003 and 2004 use iridium plugs so it looks like there are some differences between the Tundra V8 and the 4runner V8 or all of this information is not correct. Anyone know if the 2004 Tundra V8 used "regular" plugs/versus iridium plugs???

I am wondering if you can really feel (in seat of pants) the difference between the 04 V8 and the 05/06 V8? I know the HP went up but can you really feel the difference. Thanks

0-60 mph times indicate that the '05/'06 VVT-i V8 is roughly .5-.8 seconds faster than the non VVT-i V8's. This is definitely going to be noticible from the driver's seat. The magic thing about the VVT-i is you can really feel it activate under hard acceleration ~3000 rpm range pulling hard to redline, it almost feels like turbo boost.
 
I ripped the plastic gas tank out of my 1994 GC Jeep to replace the fuel pump. That thing is strong and after 160 k miles it was completely free of any rust (of course) and other sediment. The radiator headers on the jeep are plastic as well (not to great for this application
