Tech left plastic oil bottle in engine.

Weirdness. oil change tech left empty plastic 5-30 bottle in engine god only knows how. wedged below fan belt. engine running a little hot with noise pulled over and discovered it. DW is taking back to oil change place chatting with them. Think I need Toyota to inspect (their cost) ? Other pain I can bring...?

There’s a drain hole where the filter is located, likely put it there to catch oil and forgot it when he was finished. I did the same thing once

I also jam a small water bottle, there to collect run off from the filter change (4.0).

At least he was trying to prevent drained oil from the remote filter housing from contaminating your belt....

I'd cut the tech some slack on that...

Nah the hell with that! Bring on the pain buddy, no one is allowed to make mistakes especially mechanics. I'd personally lawyer up and have him on stand by in case they refuse to buy a new 2019 TRD Pro for you.

But in all seriousness, shit happens. There isn't much to inspect, if the fan blades weren't damaged and it spins freely after removing the bottle, I'd just ask for a free oil change or something for the inconvenience.

The tech is not doing something nice for you by catching the oil. That's part of the job! That's like saying he was being nice to his employer by catching the oil from the sump instead of letting it out directly onto the floor.
That being said, my level of annoyance would be directly related to the level of damage (if any) caused.

I talked to him and he admitted his error, apologized and gave me a freebie. He was candid and honest so that's really what I hoped for. Inspected the belt and now the vehicle is good to go. Hard when someone makes a mistake cuz we end up eating the pain.....but in fairness to him based on the comments here its an error that others have made....

The alternative is the oil would probably pool up in the skid plate, I've seen that before....:bowl:

Had that happen on the first oil change on my 2013 Tacoma. Tech left a small brake fluid bottle under the filter drain. Took it to tires done on it and got a call from the tire shop saying they found the empty, torn up bottle. Worried it was brake fluid, but it wasn't. Got a new serpentine belt and my next oil change for free from the dealer, plus an engine shampoo. Not a big deal. We all make mistakes.
