I believe I read/heard somewhere that ATRAC is good to turn on in combo with either Crawl control or MTS. CAn't remember which, but I believe it was Clay Croft, who had some inside info from Toyota engineers.

ATRAC can be used in combination with MTS, but not CRAWL as ATRAC/MTS modulate the ABS system to reduce wheel slip and CRAWL modulates ABS and throttle position to regulate speed and reduce wheel slip.

for reference, I regularly run 12 psi on my old school 10x15 rims (no beadlocks)and I'm running 37 inch Toyo MT's...the rims on the 4runner are so much better they'd easily handle 12 especially on this sort of terrain, but that's just my .02 cents.

For the last several years and thousands of miles in 4lo, usually in the rocks, my go to is 8psi. 3 sets of 305/70/17 MTRs and 1 285/70/17 MTR, haven't lost a bead yet. I do 4psi in the snow.

The only thing that typically works well in mud is tire. ATs typically don't do well at all. Besides that crawling it is almost never the right move. Momentum.. stay on top and keep the tires self clearing. But it won't matter unless you have decent tires. I generally try to avoid it at all cost...

The thing I hate the most about mud is you can't see anything. There is very little skill involved, just hope you don't find a hole or hit a rock....Then there is the aftermath of trying to work on your truck next time and years of mud in your face.
