Terra Grappler Vs. BF Goodrich

I need some opinions on whether I should get one or the other. I'd probably get 285 because I'm getting the Daystar lift as well.

Thanks

TG's

I went with the TG's. Almost half the price and they have been great so far! Just be aware that a lot of trimming will have to be done to accomodate 285s on a DS setup.

I have 285's on my DS kit and It doesn't really rub all that badly. I am going to get spacers though, and from what I hear, the spacers will cause it to rub more on the fender/liner. I need the spacers to keep it from rubbing the UCA's. Especially in reverse. Pics of yours with the TG's?

I have the limited rims for whoever can give me the answer. What's the biggest tire I can fit on this thing without rub?

Glad your 285s are workn out. I went the 265 route which has worked out pretty well.

I have always loved the BFG's, however I've also heard they are not very good in wet conditions. I guess there's not much place for the excess water to be "pushed" out. Personally I'd go TG's and never look back if those were the two options.

275/70-16=31.16=no rub
275/70-17=32.16=little rub (some light trimming inner fender well & inner mud flap)
275/70-18=33.16=rub (heavy trimming & remove mud flap)

*** You have not mentioned sectional width (profile). I'm assuming that you will be running wheel spacers so that would not be a problem. But, you should keep this in mind too (diameter is not the only thing here) because this will come into effect with the UCA's. (Personally, I would not run spacers unless you have too) ***

I have the Cooper Zeon LTZ's in 275's (no spacers). I really like them - cost less than TG, more aggressive pattern (almost MT-like), fairly quite, handle good dry & wet, balanced well and computer designed. That said, if I had to do it again, I would really consider TG's next time - either same size or 285. In the end, it's subjective and personal budget - the LTZ & KO's - have a great aggressive pattern. The TG not so much. They also "seem" alittle more low profile. If you go 32 or bigger it will rub

I don't have any experience with TGs, but I'm a big fan of BFGs and that's what I'll be putting on my 4Runner when I lift it. I put 30k miles on a set of BFGs on this TJ and loved them. It rains here a lot and I had no issues with traction or hydro-planing. I think you'll be fine with either one.

First off how much is your budget? That was the major factor in my deciding to go with the Nitto TG's. They are almost half the price and I have had mine on for about 500 miles and love them!

They handle great on the interstate with very little road noise and handle great in the rain. I noticed a deal of difference in the handling with them off road compared to the stock Bridgestone Duelers.

I would recommend the Nitto's!!

I purchased mine through Discount Tire and I paid $700 total but that included $544 for the tires and $160 to get them installed and also the lifetime replacement and balance and rotation.

It's been soooo long since I've owned a set of BFG AT's...but my XJ has 35" versions of the Nitto TG's on it now. I've had them on that rig for at least 4 years now and have put about 25-30k miles on them and they still have about 1/4" or more of thread depth. Unfortunately they've aged and gotten hard cause they sit outside all the time in the back yard (XJ is just a crawler).

There were many times out on the trails that the Nittos impressed everyone. Plenty of times where I had people scratching their head as to why their tires weren't performing as well as my Nittos. :) Much of it was in wet rocks.

I have had both BFG and currently have TG and they are both great tires but I love my TG's. I got the TG cause I wanted a quieter ride than BFG and I really don't off road that much to quantify the little extra road noise. TG's are great in EVERYTHING, even when I took my stock T4R to Rausch off road park- the 4R and tires great performance surprised everyone. IMHO- if your going more off road I like the idea of BFG with more side wall protection(I think) but TG's run quieter and in the rain-especially deep puddles at highway speeds the TG's flush the water out better where the BFG's seem to actually slow the speed.
But TG's do look more aggressive- if thats ur thing
Good luck choosing, it's a hell of a hard decision!
