Terrible Noise

Hey guys,

My truck has been making a terrible noise ever since I got it. It only happens occasionally, so I never really worried too much about it.

Anyways, it happens when I have the steering wheel locked in either direction and go up or down a curb (or some other steep gradiant). It is hard to describe the noise, but, it's like a loud thud coming from where the front wheels are. I do not have oversized tires and it has been doing this since I got the truck. It rarely ever happens because I make a habit of not locking the steering wheel. But, sometimes it is unavoidable because, for instance, it's a sharp turn to get into my driveway.

Does anyone have a clue what this could be? Thanks a lot in advance guys. Appreciate it, as always.

Is the sound one time, constant or repeating when the steering wheel is in the full right or left position?

does it occur when the truck is moving or stopped or both?

what makes the sound go away?

You need to grease the steering stops. Yeah the first time mine did that I thought the front end was trashed. Just turn(or have someone else turn ) the steering to the lock position and you will see the contact point that needs to be greased.

It just happens when I go over the bump and happens when the steering wheel is locked in both directions.

It occurs when I am driving.

It stops after I go over the bump.

Thank you!!! Is this something I could do myself? Or, should I have the dealership do it the next time I am getting my oil changed?

If I can do it myself, what kind of grease shall I use?

Thanks again. That was quick!

Definate DIY. Use whatever grease is in your grease gun... Pump a little out and smear it around.

I actually use motorcycle chain lube out of a spraycan, works great.:D
