Test Drove an FJ Cruiser

I don't know about other states or cities, but in Texas it's hard to find these on the lot PERIOD. Let alone ones that aren't already sold....

The places in Austin require a 500.00 deposit to have the car delivered to the dealership and if you decide not to buy it, you're out your 500 bucks.

My fiance and I drove from Austin to Houston yesterday to pick something up for the Runner and low and behold, the dealer had a USED FJ on the lot. I hurried to go see if we could test drive the little monster. I let me fiancee drive it and I rode in back, but it sounded wonderful! I LOVED virtually EVERY feature it offered and wished they had some of the things as an option on the 4Runner. The three worst things about the FJ though is the tiny windows (more like portholes) the MAJOR blind spot all the way down the car, and the vertical mirrors. So basically, it's awesome to drive and to sit in and to enjoy.... but not around any other car! Anyway, beware of this if any of you are really into the new FJ's....

200 miles.... a guy bought the car for his mom.... the mom laughed at him and told him to return it because she didn't want to drive "that thing" - thats why you never send a man to buy a woman a present.

It was BEAUTIFUL - TRD package, aftermarket Eclipse In-Dash GPS, Rock Bars, Tons of extras. ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS - Black and White. I wish we could have bought it, but I wasn't letting go of my 4runner.

But, those salesman can be full of crap when it comes to telling stories about the used cars.

Was it 4x4?? I assume that it was because of all the off-road options it had.

Which dealer was this in Houston??

Fred Haas, Toyota Country. They said the've been selling their cruisers super fast and it's amazing this one is still around. I LOVED the sound of the exhaust. Someone go buy it! So i can stop dreaming about it! haha

I agree about the story. Who knows what the deal really is on it? Maybe they didn't like it because of the blind spots?

these things sell like hotcakes out here in SoCal
so fast I can see some of them being impulse buys
it is a shame that so many non offroades are going end up with one, they are so offroad orientated
We are a offroad lifestyle faminly, and so it was a natural for us to get it
we wanted a Small Suv, that made sense both OFFROAD and on, this one hit the mark really well
Engine, wheelbase, 4x4 system, we had looked a quite a few.
Actually bought this one the day they were released for sale

Blind Spot

So how do you compensate for the bad blind spots? Have any offroad pics? My fiance HATED the vertical mirrors because he's tall ... I mentioned that you could probably switch them out with different mirrors... but the side of the vehicle was another story.

Blindspots? what blindspots, if you know how to properly adjust mirrors there are no blindspots. I have had a few guys say there were blindspots and when I showed them how to properly adjust a mirror, they admitted there was no blindspot.
I am 6'2" and have no issues with the mirrors at all

Got the Oil Changed in the 4Runner last week, Toyota of Ft. Worth had 4 FJ's on the lot, one had a lift kit and some bling bling wheels. The Yellow is sharp! :dancin:

yeah I'm from Plano so if there's one thing I DO know is that the Dallas area will have a lot of FJ's for all those people who can't live with their 6 month old vehicle and gotta go trade theirs in for a newer one.

Definately, maybe I can trail on a ATV or somethin even. I may not have the 4x4 but I sure do have the tow package to get a 4x4 there! Keep me posted. I live in San Marcos now but I'm all over the state really.
