Tested side roll over bags today....It works

Today while driving to work,proceeded to go through intersection then Boom.Got T boned by a chevy tahhoe that ran a red light.Was able to climb out and from pass side door.Luckily only had scrathes and cuts on left armno major injuries.
Friend of mind said he wouldnt buy a 4Runner because when you close the door it sound like a thin can.(He driver a Honda CRV HaHaHa)Now I can tell him its built Ford...Opps ) Toyota Tuff
Hopefully they total it .Wouldt be wanting to drive a one year old car with that much damage

Looks like it held up great. Glad to hear your OK,

How many times did you roll? It looks like you were hit on the driver rear side?

How fast were you going, how fast was the Tahoe going?

Got hit on right side and fliped onto drivers side .Looks like rearend took the the hardest hit.Expected more damage on right .
Was going about 25mph Tahoe going at least 35mph.35mph speed limit but most go 40-45.
 
My guess is that your insurance company will declare it totaled. It looks to be pretty bent up along the upper sides and roof area. I guess it all really depends upon the cost to fix it compared to the vehicle's value. But that type of damage is usually very expensive to repair.

BTW, I like what you did with your Sport wheels. Do you have any other pics of them?

Also, did the rollover rip off the roof rack, or you just didn't have one on there in the first place?

Nice to see you're OK. Gotta tell ya that those side airbags work exceptionally well in a collision.

As for the damage to the truck.....I think we can buff that right out. Little Bondo here, little primer there......


With the side airbags gone off alone the insurance will write it off - costs several thousand to replace the bags and the sensors after deployment. I think a 5th Gen is in your future. It would be in mine after that.

I know it's kind of subjective but do you feel as though the side airbags really helped? Without them would you have been in the E.R.? Did you head really get thrown around?

If I'm not mistaking when an insurance company declare's it totaled, you have the option of buying it back for a certain price?
That way you can part it out and sometimes come out ahead. I could be wrong though.

Btw can you sneak back there and take out those rear head rests, I'll buy them from you, i doubt they will notice!
 
Let us know what happens with the insurance. It does look impressive on how well the 4Runner held together. I am glad your OK.
 
Good lord! Glad you're ok. Hope you have GAP insurance or else if it's totaled, you will most likely have to pay the rest of your loan off depending on how much the insurance will value the SUV, that's if you it's still under a loan.

I think it really did.As I was was on the side the runner actually spun around on the side about 270 degrees.During that time I didnt feel like I was being bounced around.My head problbly would have slamed onto side of the door.
