Tethered gas/fuel cap? Yes!

Thought i would post this for the many that dont have a tethered gas cap. Last thing you need is a misplaced gas cap or one that rolls under a passing car at the gas station. Happens quite often if you live in the windy city

Found one at Napa auto parts for $18. Ebay and other places might have it for much cheaper.

That was actually my first “mod” within a week of owning the truck. The original cap looked like it had seen better days beside the missing tether, and after reading some of the code related issues a bad cap can cause, I decided to order a replacement OEM cap from Amazon. Sometimes it’s “the little things”...:wink2:

I'm confused...don't they all just fit in the fuel door? At least mine does. Hang it there every time. Just wondering.

Come to Oregon (tax free), they pump the gas, I want it tethered.

yeah, there's a spot on the fuel door where the gas cap goes during fueling.

so did mine. i cut it off the first time i filled up.

After 8 months, 2 failed gas caps from napa auto parts, and 1 gas cap seal replaced (all under warranty from napa) my dash light kept coming on periodically through the fall, winter, and spring in the Chicago areas.

I finally gave up and paid for a toyota gas cap. Its been 2 months and there have been no issues.

If anything comes up, I will report back.

The OEM gas cap, with tether, can be had on Amazon for $15.
