Haven’t done much to the 4R in a while, just driving it, currently at 135k miles. Just returned from a road trip including Great Sand Dunes, Rocky Mountain, Yellowstone, and Grand Teton National Parks amongst other areas. Towing the trailer I averaged 14.5 mpg. Aired down the tires on the 4R and Hiker to 20psi and checked out the sand dunes on Medano Pass in Great Sand Dunes NP. Overall loving the setup.
Installed the EGOI twin compressor by UpDown Air. The majority of the parts seem near identical to that of the ARB. Footprint has the same mounting holes, so I was able to use the same SLEE bracket from the single to mount the twin. This wiring harness didn’t include wiring for lockers, two reds and one black wire. Install was less than 30 minutes.
Did the same 15-35 PSI test on 31” tires.
First: 1:23.72 (I did a lot of off/on to check where the pressure was at)
Second: 1:14.98
Third: 1:16.48
Fourth: 1:15.09
Total: 5:10.27
Average: 1:27.5
So the dual compressor will shave off about 3 minutes to do all 4. Hardly a reason to upgrade from single to dual, or spend the extra $$ in the first place if you’re not running air lockers. I only did so because my ARB single needed the motor replaced. This will be better as I plan to air down the trailer tires as well, so six 31” tires.
New tire day. Sitting at 142,230 trouble free miles.
I went to order another set of Falken Wildpeak AT3Ws, but they were recalled currently. So I decided to try out the General Grabber ATX (265/70/r17 115T). Immediately, the 55-60mph steering wheel shimmy is gone. So far they're smooth and quiet. 43,600 miles on this set of Falkens. They had a few miles left in them, but I was able to get the Grabbers on a sale so it worked out.
The front splash guards on both sides had crumbled and fallen off somewhere. The rears were still intact, but as you can see had rubbed some of the paint off.
I installed ARK splash guards and touched up the paint underneath. If you purchase, be sure to buy the extra clips with it. The OEM didn’t seem to be quite long enough.
