Text button on Standard Radio

I was just wondering what the text button does on the standard radio. I tried pressing it while playing regular CD's and CD-R's. Nothing happens when you press it. I looked it up in the manual and it does not really explain it fully.

Somtimes radio station will send a singal that says what station it is on the "text". Also some cds have cd-text burned onto them
that will tell you the name of the song and what not.

And if you rip and burn your own CDs be sure to put CD text on them. That's what I did when I copied all my vinyl to CD (only us old folks will understand what that means).

Text button doen't do anything

I have a friend that has a 4th gen, and her radio displays the info from various radio stations, such as their call letters, the song title and artist etc. (on certian stations).

However, my radio has never done this. I tried the same stations that she gets the info from but no luck.

Does anyone have a suggetion?

The next time I make a CD, I will have to try adding the CD info as suggested on another thread.

Just make sure "Write CD Text" is enabled when you burn the cd and it will tell you the artist, cd name, and track title while its playing. Some (very few) cds come that way from retail, but its pretty much only if you burn the cd and write it yourself.

I talked to Toyota customer service about this some time ago and they told me that the standard factory systems don't support the radio station text. Works fine for CDs you burn yourself though...just be careful how the tracks are labled or you won't be able to see much useful text on the display.

Yeah mine doesn't work on Radio Stations though I know the stations are broadcasting it. It does work on CDs though.

To get the radio station information, your HU has to have the RDS feature that's only on the 6-disc JBL unit. The single-disc HU's only have the CD text feature, and not RDS.

Well that explains that (I have the single disc unit)

No RDS on single CD unit

Well isn't that just "neat"!

They put that "TEXT" button there, and it makes you think it should work..

Yup, that's one of the reasons I wanted the 6-disc unit instead of my single-disc. The TEXT feature is neat, but uselss to me, I wish it would scroll the title continuously instead of having to hold the text button.

6 disc cd changer text button on 07 tundra crew max

I have a 2007 tundra crewmax. First year they were built. I also have a 6 disc cd changer and the text button does not work. My wife has a 2004 Solara and it works perfectly. Any time a song is on the FM radio she can hit the text button and the performers name or band appears.
