The backlights on the A/C control unit out

Hi guys, so my clock was not working and I fixed it using the directions on here, I think I may have yanked some wiring, I took the truck for a drive tonight and this happened. What do I look for when I open the trim back up again?

Backlight on your buttons. Easy. 4-T3 Neowedge bulbs. (2 for the Climate control and 2 for the ECT/ rear window buttons) The backlights on your radio LCD cannot be fixed.

I don't think you got what I meant to say, everything it was working just fine, I opened up the front panel, to fix the clock, fix the clock off and put the panel back together and now the lights on the back off the plant gauge cluster are not working. For the radio it is working just fine but for the climate gauge it is not. Also the radio LCD works just fine I just had the radio turned off at the time I took the picture.

OK that's good, then just the bulbs I mentioned are blown. The filaments in the bulbs break very easy when they are shaken. The climate controls I fix come to me with some of the bulbs working but by the time I'm done, a lot of them don't work anymore so I always just use new bulbs.

It is unusual to blow all the lights at once. May be you didn't plug a wire properly. How is your dash dimmer? Is it all the way off? Why not pull the unit out once more and check the bulbs and the connectivity. Make sure to disconnect the battery before removing any electronics in newer cars.

I am pretty sure that I did not blow out the bulbs as I did not take the A/C unit out, when I was replacing the clock back into the dash, I did pull out the trim and it was a pretty violent pull and in the process I think I might have yanked on the harness too hard may be? Because before I did the clock fix, all the bulbs were lighting up just fine. I will try to pull it out again tomorrow and see if I accidentally pulled out a wire in a connector, My dash dimmer is all the way to full power and the radio is lighting up just fine, its only the A/C module that lost its back lighting.

The ECT and Window defroster and power window buttons did not work before but the rest of the climate control system did. Do you think I should check the harness once again before I attempt the change of bulbs?

Yeah you should check. If the buttons perform their function but just aren't lighting up then, in all likelihood, the bulbs are out.

The buttons are definitely all 100% functional, no questions asked. I will check the harness again tomorrow and see whats happening there, if it doesnt do anything, I am dreading the ardous process of changing out all the bulbs

If the buttons are working 100%, the your bulbs are out. No big deal. The OEM bulbs are around $6-8 each. One of the ones behind the rear window button is a "tall" bulb. LEDs are cheaper, and in my opinion, look better. The ones in the climate control are easy too. Take out the control, take out the 2 brass screws holding the 2 halves of the control together and separate the halves. A butter knife works well here. A small ribbon cable is between the 2 halves. Lift the little ears on the connector on the black half and the ribbon cable will come out easily. When putting it back together you'll have to push the cable in evenly and re engage the little ears to secure the cable.

I know you said you want OEM. Since you blew all at once you might have a short and LED are less susceptible. Last time I got OEM at the dealer they were about $6 each. I got these for my older 4Runner. They came fast and are still working. since I got 20 for $6.99 I have plenty left for the 3rd gen.

81850-35050 For the buttons

81850-35040 For the LCD back light. Maybe want to replace them also while your in there.

The first # you can also use behind the ECT/ rear window/ defrost buttons. I believe the one behind the rear window up/down button is a "tall" bulb but the base is the same (T3 8mm) should insert and illuminate fine. Also, to add insult to injury, your hazard switch bulb might be out too.
