So I bought a 4runner 3 weeks ago with plans to make it a super cheap offroad rig I can beat the shit out of and not care.

Didn’t cost me much, has the elocker, not too rusty, past its prime.

The fun began on day 1. I found 35s for $150 for all 4. 2 are good thread 2 are not good. And not matching tread.

Cut the fenders and put them on. wheel spacers help.

I’m thinking this thing needs a SAS done to it. And move the radiator, tranny cooler, battery, etc. to the back. Air conditioning delete but save the compressor so you can convert it into an air compressor for tires/air locker for front. Take the tailgate off and chop the roof behind the rear seat. Also needs an Exo Cage. Should be set then.

Made a bumper for one of the winches I had around, all with steel I had laying around. It’s ugly but it works.

Flexes nice with no rear shock.

Cheapest shocks I could find

After a weekend in the bush she got even uglier.

And I lost my rear brakes. Line broke.

Goal was low profile and high clearance. Nailed it I think. The sliders on my Tacoma stuck out too far for my liking. These are just enough.

I made a rear bumper a week or two ago as well

Square tube again. With a big dodge tow hook welded on. I’m going to cut it off and put a 2” receiver in it instead. This is too ugly for me

Hit the bush again with this buddy and ended up towing him out from here. He got tied up in a big rut and would get it running right after.

That RZR has to be a blast to drive.
It is! Well...was... I sold it a couple days ago.

Could’ve bought 10 of these 4runners for I sold the rzr for.

Definitely needs tons and 40s. Chopping the back, and an exo aren’t my style.

Moab, Rubicon, Dusy, did lots of fun stuff with it. All with my pup too. He’s with me on all my adventures.

those are magnificent. too bad you aren't in Houston (shipping would SUCK), I would pay for a set like that.

Looks like the axle was rustier than you thought... I could use the left front bumper trim piece if you still have it.

It's nice to see a build happening that doesn't involve copious amounts of money, but also doesn't sacrifice appearance/street cred

I’m trying to figure out a clean way to add tube to the front and rear bumpers.

Also might try to make some tube doors.

The brake wasn’t working right on this winch so I took it apart and wound it up so t works correctly. Once you figure out how it works it’s quite easy.

Made a special tool to clean out the inside of the drum haha

And found some synthetic line so I put that on, and a new roller fairlead I had laying around. Hawse fairlead coming soon. Don’t want this getting pinched.

Yay

Also fitted some trim on the cut bumper to protect the hands.

Went and found some new trails yesterday, I haven’t been exploring for a while so it was nice.

Why go around the rut when you can just go in it?

She was steep though. Had to scrape some dirt out before I could use the door handle

Wow these pics are tiny.
