The Bargain Beater

Found an ok price on these tires so I went and got them. Not sure on them though. They’re measure up a little small and look narrow. Not sure how I feel about it.

Trimmed my chrome bumper up today, it was looking ugly. Upon inspection from afar, it is still quite ugly! Need to finish the steel Tube one with some plate.

So I bought a 4runner 3 weeks ago with plans to make it a super cheap offroad rig I can beat the shit out of and not care.

Here’s what I’ve done so far.

Didn’t cost me much, has the elocker, not too rusty, past its prime.

Blasphemy! That’s a nice 4Runner.

Took a few fun lines up this to test the tires, there’s lots more to the left.

I wish it showed the scale of these, some of them are quite big. I need skids.

As for the tires, they worked pretty well. I think I’ll keep them for now.

A few marks on the blocks, must not be super hard compound.

Got a better fairlead so I don’t damage my line. Cheapo off amazon. But quality appears decent.

I found a decent price safety thimble on amazon as well. I’m going to try it out, as this hook will beat up this fairlead real quick. And I love the thimbles.

I got a parts 4runner, so I’ve been pulling a few bits off that for this. Including the cat which I got $125 for for basically no work. Previous owner pulled the engine out since it had been rolled into the drivers side. Half the km of mine so most parts are much nicer. And it has ZERO rust. I swapped in the front coilovers today since mine are worn right out. And sagged, this will give me a tiny bit of height too.

Safety thimble came in, it’s massive. But I won’t complain, it cost a 3/4” now shackle and is black. Looks pretty beefy.

Also had thought on how to make a super budget(but legit) front spacer lift to gain a little bit of clearance up front. Hmmmmmm....

I removed this trashed abandoned suv.

Pulled it 1.5ish km, thing was stuck in 4wd, didn’t pull bad with the runner though. Thing is a little beast.

Then a little fancy winching to get it to the open. A damn good time. Tested a few aspects of the runner and she pulled through.

Pulled the muffler off my parts runner and put it in mine. Mine had a hole. Absolutely silent now. Love it. Cut it off so she won’t get squished.

baller as ****

how many miles and have you done any engine work to it? i want to do a few similar things like this on mine, but wondering if it's even worth it if my engine is close to wearing out.

I replaced my lower links with some less used ones. Sold the tires off my parts truck, mounted my full-size spare.

On my buddies truck- drilled a new pattern into the tcase flange, cleaned up and installed his front shaft. Went and tested his rig and check it for clearances so he can come wheeling tomorrow :D

Check out the wear on my old links. I could really feel this.

Every bushing was completely toast.

Someone gave me neutral rep for this post in another thread lol. Someone is triggered.

Had quite a bit of fun today. Did a bunch of sketchy trails with some big ass rocks @ ledges. In the pouring rain which made things even more interesting. Yeehaw

I smashed in my lower link mounts pretty good. Going to reinforce them.

Fixed my one link mount and plated them both. Then hit the lower links with some beef. Sure it’s ugly. But who’s looking? And now they should be a little tougher.

Removed my chrome rear bumper sides too. Gotta do something with this vent.

At it again this evening

So my washer bottle started leaking from the tires rubbing in it. But a buddy gave me an 84 extracab to take away for scrap and I noticed the washer fluid bottle was small and may fit under the hood of the runner. I didn’t know this, but it fits almost perfectly.

My motor from my 96 fit right in, I lengthened the wiring and it fits in place nice. I need to put a bolt in instead of a self tapper though. Also re routed my intake. As you can see in the photo too. I called the hole through the inner fender, and used the original intake parts to keep the intake inside the engine bay. Not ideal but better than above the tire.

Ordered plates for tcase and tranny skids.

Made a call to Trail Gear too....something is happening.

Capped off my rear bumper tube, I might put a 90* gusset plate on it so it’s rock solid too.

Need to swap my rear shocks again, I got some decent used procomp shocks off the front of the 84 I scrapped.

Hauled this sick little 81 for my buddy last night.

And saw this one today.
