The Best Amps In The World?!?!

Looking to replace my Alpine 5 channel.

Trying to figure out a better quality amp to put in there. Researched Zapco, Focal, A/D/S, JL

Who makes the best 4 or 5 channel amp?

The best 4 or 5?

I'll be realistic here at your meaning of "best" you can spend as much as your truck is worth on a single amp if you wanted to.

I would say realisticly the Audison LRX 5.1 is a no compromise SQ amp. Worthy of using active vs passive to your speakers.

There are very few manufactures that make good 5 channel amplifiers, most people split the work of amps, using 1 or more for mids & highs and using one for sub(s).

focal, audison vrx, macintosh, jl audio, rockford fosgate power with fan, kicker, zappco and something else.

i am trying to stick with one amp to save as much space as possible. Also thinking about changing out the factory sub without changing the housing. Pioneer seems to be the best sub that will fit. Is that possible???
 
Alpine's 5 channel is just as good as JL's in my opinion.

You want to spend a ton of money on a nice amp, but are putting in a Pioneer sub? That kind of negates the nice amp.

Alright then.... Who makes the best Sub that will fit in the stock sub placement without much fabrication?
 
I'm not too knowledable on the stock sub specs and placement. It just seems like if you are going to spend a good bit of money for a nice amp, speakers, HU, etc... that you should not skimp on a sub, maybe it's just me. I do know that if you pick a bad sub that doesn't perform well it will cause everything else to sound worse.

I take it you are looking for SQ. I would look at brands such as Image Dynamics ID MAX, Brahama, Stereo Integrity's Mag, and maybe a JL Audio W6.
 
Ok first question you have to anwser, what size is the stock subwoofer? (8'' or 10'' and the depth?)

Depending on the depth and size of the sub you maybe be able to fit in very decent sub that can use the available airspace.

To get a little better performance out of the stock sub enclosure you could cover it a bit with fiberglass, this would stiffen it up a bit. I've neve seen or felt one in action so this is subjective, maybe it has air leaks too? After all, all that is needed is a small sealed airspace.
 
Best 4 or 5 channel amp? That is way too subjective of a question to get a decent answer. At least say what your intentions are with the sound system, otherwise nothing posted will have any significance.
 
Trying to weigh my options as we speak. Have Focal K2Ps in the front doors running off the Eclipse 5495 Nav head unit. Everything else in the car is stock except for the backup camera and iPod interface.

My #1 goal is SQ

From my old 4Runner, I have another pair of Focal K2Ps that I am thinking about putting in the rear doors with the tweeters on the rear stock pillar.

Also from my old 4R is a Alpine 5 channel amp that I am contemplating using but only if it fits in the stock spot for the factory amp. If not trying to figure out what to replace it with. Suggestions have included the new Alpine amps as well as Focal and TRU out of CA

Lastly what is the best sub that I can put in the factory spot without too much fabrication and a "stock" look
 
I agree that you don't to invert your subs, definitely does not look stock. I think you will need to do a good bit of work to get a truly factory look.

Do you know what size sub you want to go with? I would assume 10".

I posted a few subs that you might want to check out in my last post.

The stock sub is an 8". Leaning toward the Alpine FDX4.150. Looks to pack a bunch of punch for a such a small amp.

Now for the SUB dilema.....
 
Solid choice. I'm almost postive you will get more than 150 RMS from that amp. Are you going to run your front speakers off of two channels and then bridge two so that you'll feed the sub ~300?

Are you only looking for a 8" or are you going to build a custom enclosure? You could probably do an awesome fiberglass enclouse that fits in the stock location. That would allow you to fit a larger sub.


Have you thought about adding any sound deadening?

Was trying to keep the costs down all together. Kind of ironic considering my expensive taste usually takes over.

May consider the sound dampening. Right now I am thinking about getting the amp and rear Focals in and then do some more investigation on the sub. Would probably do the mono Alpine. Hopefully I can get both amps in the rear.
 
Post up some pics when you finish your install. Sounds like it's going to be a great setup and I know keeping a stock look can be difficult.
 
Any last thoughts or suggestions?

Thinking about having a custom fiberglass box built to replace the factory sub box. My hope is to be able to fit the new JL slim sub 13" in the back with the two alpine amps (pdx 1.600 and pdx 4.150). Waiting for the quote from my A/V shop now.

My final set-up would be as follows:
Eclipse 5495
Focal 165 K2p in the front and rear doors with tweets in the factory spot
PDX 4.150 running the focals
Custom box for factory look with JL 13 slim sub in the rear
PDX 1.600 running the sub

I am getting excited
 
I can tell you that it won't be cheap, but if the people are good it will turn out great. You have some nice equipment there.

What kind of wires are you running?
 
If they can make this happen I would love to see it.

I am planning a similar setup, and always shopping for ideas.

I have CDT HD-62's, PDX 4.150 & 1.600. I'm waiting on an ordered subwoofer to get started. My current plan was to put the amp's & crossovers behind the panel where the factory sub is and fiberglass a box on the outside. I didn't think everything could fit back there (the sub only needs 1^3 ft).

Whatever you end up make sure you post some pic's I would love to see what can be done.
