If you dont go HID go HIR. Silverstar = Crap. You wont be able to see anything at night in the rain with them.

+1 I've had experience with Silverstars and they are horrible in the rain. The pure white light just gets "drowned" out.

Check out this website for info on good non-HID headlights. Shipping is really fast from them. I'm running some H1 +30's on my other car and they provide good output.

I think that the Silverstars are pretty decent in general. I lived in North Carolina for 3 years where it does not rain as much as......shall we just say drop all at once.

Driving on stretches of I-40 that are dark as a coal mine these always worked out well.

I am likely going to buy the Xenon bulbs soon as they are something I would love to have for my truck, and I figure the better and more lighting (to a point) you have, then better and safer you are. Just hafta find a way to maybe hide it from the Mrs. for a bit.

After all...It is easier to ask for firgiveness than it is for permission.

Silverstars are so-so in the rain but you can help them out with yellow bulbs in the fogs so they do what they are intended for.

I have Silverstars on my truck and I'm happy with them. Much better than the "Kyoto" or whatever stock comes with. Though I've yet to drive through severe weather with them; I think they were a good buy. I am going to look into HID's later, but for now, I like the White look they have. I've spotted many animals with them...including deer in front of me.

But you also have to remember that what we often call "Fog Lights" are not really that. I am not trying to be politically correct, but they truly are "auxillary driving lights" and serve the purpose of giving a bit of extra light, somewhat closer to the vehicle and lower down.

I am expecting my xenons to arrive either today or tomorrow. Giddy up!!!!!




On another note, has anyone put a set of xenons in the fogs on a 2007 or 2008? I know that it can take a few seconds for the lights to warm up and give maximum light, and with the constant off/on with the high beams it may not be the best option.

Just wondering what some other people's takes are on this use for the xenons - especially since they are not projector lamps like the 2003 - 2006 models.

You don't want to use an HID kit for your high beams, for 2 reasons. First, it's really bad for the bulbs to be turned on/off too fast, so flashing your high beams would be very harsh on them. Second, it takes 5-10 seconds for the bulbs to fully heat up for maximum light output, so using them on your high beams would only put out about half of it's lighting capabilities. Silverstars are sufficient for high beams.

As for the low beams/ fogs, both are HID compatible. However, with the earlier 4th gens, the low beams have reflector housings, so you will need to retrofit it for the HID kit to work well. If you have an 06+ then it is a fairly simple installation. It's just time-consuming to zip-tie all of the wires neatly and out of sight.

The fog lights are projector in 02-05 model 4runners, but reflector in the 06+ models, so if you want both lowbeams/fogs with HID's, you will have to do a conversion on at least one of them. I have just kept my fog lights halogen for the time being, but I'm considering yellow HID's in the near future.

Mine were about $224 from XenonDepot.com. Since I have an 07, I was able to just plug them in, connect the wires, and I was done. If I want to to my fogs, it will be a bit more complicated. You can always click the HID Kit link in my sig for more info.

In my 2013 4Runner I've got Xenon bulbs, but if you'd rather go with classic halogens. Sylvanias are the best to my mind...
