The cubby in front of the shift lever - Gauges perhaps?

Curious what people have done with that storage cubby in front of the shift lever. It is useless in my application and I was thinking about installing some gauges to more accurately monitor my 4Runner's performance when towing.

I'm interested in hearing thoughts as well as input on how people have modified that area, if at all.

My idea at this moment is to install oil temp and either EGT or trans temp (and yes I realize there's a warning light for that)

Have an ipod/usb cord run into there from an aftermarket head unit. Had to drill a hole in the plastic assembly (piece behind the cubby) to feed the cord through but you can't see it.

Old 80gb ipod classic fits in there perfect and still easily accessible if you want to plug in a different ipod/iphone or usb stick.

Gauges would work nicely too though as wiring to that point is simple.

Fab a custom panel in place of the door and point the gauge faces up and at an angle. There is room but I won't use the word "plenty".

I'm planning to put my 520XL series uniden CB in here. I bought it because its narrow enough to fit and has all capabilities I need. Im super curious whats all behind this small compartment and how much Im gonna need to move around behind there to get it to fit. I'll try to remmeber to snap a pic or two while its all ripped open this weekend to give a better idea for others what the real options are for this box other then just the small stuff. I'm really hoping I can make it fit
