It was a nice day here in the great Northeast, so I thought I would change my winter tires (REVOs) out for the OEM Dueler H/Ts and do the tire rotation while I was at it. Pulled the spare (for the 1st time) out from under the back and found the dealer has proven once again why I cringe every time I have to take it back to them. I had the vehicle undercoated when I bought it, and the 'technician' apparently neglected to remove the spare 1st. He missed the entire area above the tire/wheel, but managed to give the outer side of the alloy wheel a good coating from the overspray. That stuff doesn't come off easy. Finally gave up and called them, they are going to coat the area they missed (after removing the spare I hope), and clean the wheel or replace it if it can't be cleaned.:50cal:

Undercoating???

Why did you have undercoating installed? If applied improperly, the worst it could do is block frame/body water drain holes and the truck will rust out.

from my experience with my 94 corolla, undercoating works great. my stock exhaust has no rust, unlike the other cars from my year.

I was in the automotive service business for a long time and am well aware of the problems with improperly applied undercoating. The service I got was only the underbody coating, not the inner door or interior panels. No holes were drilled anywhere. I think any form of protection for the underside painted panels is a good thing, and it also helps with sound insulation.

The under side of the vehicle gets all the crap! Todays vehicles are usaully well protected on the bottom for rust. Brake lines and fuel lines are usaully the first to go, then the gas tank and then floor and frame. Yes I meant frame! I`m a Motor Vehicle Repair Technician in Canada, Southwestern Ontario to be exact. The roads departments around here love to lay the salt down so that they don`t have to plow snow, just let it run off. There are usaully piles of salt at intersections. The salt gets into every nook and cranny in the vehicle and starts corroding everything, helping my job security. The undercoating really helps to slow this process down if applied properly. Keeping the vehicle clean on the outside helps the top half. Washing a vehicle once a week in the winter regardless of the weather conditions is all you need. The weather is just starting to get a little more tolerable here so no more salt (I hope)!
