the DRL's are now DRLooong gone

i took my 4runner in today for her first oil change. aww proud moment. but anyway i asked them if they would disco the DRL's and he said sure...no charge either. i was going to go to a closer dealership to get the oil changed but when i called them they said they wouldnt disconnect them...so guess what. no business for you. i will not miss having those i can tell you that.

I keep mine on. There are roads in some states that DRLs or headlights on are mandatory. Wish i can find a white bulb that will replace the orange one tho.

I get a break on my insurance for having DRL's too. It's probably not a big effect, but something that small that might help another driver see me can't be a bad thing.

Aren't most DLR bulbs in the high beam bulb, run at a lower power so they aren't the full bright? I know HID's wont last in a DRL. Your best bet would be HIR's, but crazy spendy. Would be the whitest halogen that you could find but at a lower power? I dunno.

Ask or look for Fo-Sheezy as I know he replaced his with super white bulbs - they look awesome; however, I prefer the orange.

In Canada, DRL are Mandatory (i.e. THE LAW!).

I'm surprised the US hasn't followed suit.

There are numerous studies that link a decrease in accidents and use of DRLs.

Depends on the vehicle. Some use half powered highbeams for DRLs, others like the 4Runner uses amber lights. GM vehicles for the most part, typically has amber DRLs. I think Toyota is starting to use amber for their trucks, but cars are still half powered highbeams.

HIDs actually won't work for DRLs because the ballasts never gets full power to fully ignite the burners.

Has any one taken a look at V-Led's?
I've been wanting to get some but still undecided.
It's white until you use the turn signal then it will blink orange.
But it has issues with the 07-08 Tundras with DRL's in that when the DRL's are active they will show orange instead of white. Not sure if the DRL set up is the same for 4Runners though. Anyways thought this is cool and wanted to share with you guys.

Glad they set it up the way u want it at no charge , can't beat that.

I like having my DRL's , if they were the headlight ones probably not , but still would use them ,as far as the bright amber ones in the 4R I love them , wish the would stay on with headlights too. The super bright orange is nice.

I know for sure they have saved my but a few times.

theres lots of good things about them, but for the most part i hate that the car tells me when i can and cant have them on. i dont like having to deal with that and if i want to sit in a parking lot waiting for someone they are on. if its dark or foggy ill turn my lights on but during the day if people cant see me they should stay the off of the road, right? its not a small car.
i love getting in my car now and not having to see them on too..it was weird the first night but now im super happy they are gone. isnt it weird how such little things can make you happy

I sure see a lot more ''no tail light situations'' these days. On the newer vehicles when the switch is on, the dash is lit. DRLs take care of the front...... nothing in the back.Rain, snow,fog,dusk and dawn, no tail lights.

I love the DRLs on mine; I don't have any indicator lights telling me that they are on inside the cabin - is that a new feature on 05 and up?

Don't know about other years, on my 08 the dash is lit whenever engine is running.From all the people I see on the roads, in the dark with just DRLs on, I'm sure our 4Rs aren't alone with that feature.

Never thought of it, but I guess that doesn't make sense that the fronts are on, but the rears aren't.

I never liked DRL's. But I do keep my lights on during the day. But there are times that I want all of my lights off (camping, hunting, etc. so as to not bother others), which the DRL doesn

Yea, I had mine turned off, also had those anoying seat belts and air bags removed. Who needs safety devices anyway, as long as you look good that's all that matters. Be sure to sign your organ doner card!

im sure it serves some sort of safety..but not enough for me to care and have them on. in low lights ill have my lights on to be visible to other drivers. but during the day there is no need for them IMO.
on cars where old people are driving, they DRL's should consist of all lights...they are forgetful
