The elusive 285/75-17 BFG KM2

I am a fan of my BFG KM2's but I want to take the size up a notch from my current 285/70-17 to 285/75-17. I have been looking at different brands since the 285/75 size was apparently discontinued and unavailable.

I know the Mgr at a local Discount Tire store, so I called to ask about this size since they still listed it on their website. In his system, he showed an old part number and a new part number. The old part number said it could no longer be ordered. The new part number said they were in production.

He called BFG directly and they advised this size underwent a compound change, hence the new part number. BFG said the tire will be in stock at their wharehouse June 1st of this year.

So, for those interested in the 285/75-17 BFG KM2, it will be available again soon. I ordered them and they will hopefully be here in the next couple of weeks.

Running a 3" lift with my caster at 4 degrees, they rub slightly on the body mount. I have not wheeled on them, but they should perform like my previous 285/70's with about 1/2" more ground clearance. I need to do the BMC before I wheel though. I assume it will be rubbing pretty badly with increased wheel articulation.

In addition to the compound change, BFG also added some Euro numbers to make them legal over there. At least thats how I remember/understand it.

Toyo also makes that size in both AT and MT.

Gotcha. I think the KM2's are actually some of the smaller tires if you look at actual measurements. I know the Trail Grapplers in the same size are supposed to be a touch bigger.
