Well I just bought a 96 Runner with the 2.7, manual, 125k. I pick it up monday and I can't wait. I drove it yesterday and really wasn't pleased with the power it has but you cant exspect much out of a 4 cyclinder. I had a 95 Jeep XJ with 31's and a 3" lift not to long ago but everything was going wrong on it then at 190k the head gasket went and I didn't see it being worth fixing. I have always like yotas just have never owned one. This Runner was a one owner and looks like it was very well maintained and being a western NY vehicle there is little to no rust on it.

Just a couple questions: I read that the 3.4's have timing belt issues, is it the same for the 2.7? What do you guys suggest to look out for on the 2.7? Also what about preformance wise? cold air intake be alright on a 125k mile runner?

Heres some pics at the dealer:

Nice purchase. good to see another 3RZ 4Runner.

the 2.7's have a timing chain which should be good for the life of the car (at least mine has been so far with 225k)

for performance, do the deckplate mod, the isr mod, and put on some good headers and exhaust. thats about all that is worth doing unless you want to spend massive amounts of money on forced induction

good luck

The 3.4's timing belt isn't really a problem, it's just something that has to be done.

I second the idea of not doing a cold air intake unless you just want to waste money.

Im not sure what the tires are but they need to come off, They have some sort of disign on them, and the tread is getting low.

So the deckplate mod and headers will prolly be the first thing to get done, along with some tires. I have Courser C/T's on my work truck, thinking about running those. I had 31 MT baja claws on my jeep and was impressed with how long they lasted. From NY to FL then to Louisiana and back to NY and a summer in between. a good 20-25k miles. They front ones went from not rotateing and the back ones are still on. Killed the jeep though haha

Thanks for the replies and Ill keep you guys posted
