the frozen window epidemic

i'd like to know if there's any easier tips to get the windows unfrozen (particularly the back one so i can open the door) besides driving around with the heat on full.

a lot of times, when it does open in the cold, it'll go down fine, but take a bit longer going up. definately only a cold-weather reaction.

does anyone know of a safe, easy way to unfreeze windows?! it's driving me nuts cuz i'm trying to do some moving on the weekends and when i cant get the back door open... GRR!

Two things

Replace the leaking window gaskets at the bottom of the window. Real cheap at the dealers.

And, Liquid Alcohol... Isopropyl works. Pour it where you think the ice is. You could use a 20 below windsheild wash fluid too.

I always used the rear window defroster on mine. Also learned to carry the best windshield washer fluid (-60 below) in an old Dish Soap squeeze bottle. Oh and I never let the quick lube places add windshield washer - it ALWAYS froze, think they water it down. I would fill it with my stuff before going in, cuz they NEVER listen.

Be carefull with this one,**Fire Hazard** but it does work - Could always toss in a small electric heater overnight. The heat escapes thru the glass & will help the freezing part. Also keeps frost/ice off the windshield.

But I do like the idea about moving south. My better-half says use the garage...ha - wish I though of it, ha ha, that won't happen this winter.

another thing I found when I lived in washington was to cover the vehicle with a tarp or drop cloth to keep the frost off. I mostly did that so I didnt have to defrost and scrape the windows in the morning

:awais: When I was in ohio they used this stuff in a bottle. It was a yellow bottle! You would spray it on the ice and it would basically melt the ice away and the bottle had a neat little scraper on it too! Prehaps autozone would have something like that!
