The good, the bad, and the ugly

Today I washed, cleaned, clay bar, and waxed my truck. Now I need to paint the wheels, fix up the hitch and bumper, and do something about that darn rear end rust!

The hood/roof still have plenty of oxidation/water spots visible (damn black cars) but without a machine and some good compound I am out luck.

Yeah, that isn't bad at all. Fix it for sure, but look around here and you won't find many NE runners with less rust than that.
 
Nice shine!! Need to do the same myself.

I have exactly the same rust in exactly the same areas on the frame and back axle, it's my first priority to get that removed and painted and I need to get to it before winter comes around again!
 
I plan on giving some attention to my frame this summer.

Mine doesnt look much better then yours.

I have some masterseries silver waiting in the gargae but other stuff keeps coming up.

Just noticed my rear axle seal is leaking, and I just did a major overhaul on my front end a few weeks ago..

I think im buying my next car from down south ! Im even starting to get some rust on my 01 maxima :toilet3:
 
You could paint your undercarriage with the high heat rustoleum paint that a few guys on here use. Your truck looks good and doesn't have much cancer, the undercarriage paint will clean it right up and prevent any further cancer.
 
I have recently done my undercarriage with rustoleum spray paint after a good cleanning of rust. Im very happy with how it turned out, looks showroom new. It was just a pain cleaning the rust up took about 6 hrs total between two days. I also replaced my stock rear bumper center part with a non OEM replacement, make sure to always paint the inside with a durable paint, since thats how the rear bumper seems to rust...from the inside out.

the frame mounts scare me a bit because the hardware has rusted away... agreed though. this was the 1 of 10 4runners i looked at throughout CT before buying. Seemed to be in the best shape.

thanks. took a lot of sweat to get the shine. but its a black car and I can see everything from up close! but from a distance she looks great. i also found every spot I need to touch up... some tiny rust spots are forming here and there from previous chips.

I think i will buy (when I get some more $$$) an angle grinder. I was looking at home depot and dewalt makes a nice lightwieght angle grinder for like 50 bucks. and ill throw a wire wheel and spend some time getting through all the corrosion. as far as the leak... i read on other threads that JB weld is a great temorary fix until the inevitable.

i need to clean all the existing corrosion first right? I wish there was a spray product that would just work without all the sweat.

how did you remove the rust?
 
your right on with the angle grinder. I finally broke down about two months ago and bought one. Got a real nice ridgid for $100. well worth it. wire brush it all off and then put some rustoleum on it. the spray on will work just fine. stay away from JB weld ive used it before and its a waste!!!
