Sorry, I thought the :lie: face would give it away. Or me being from Kansas and only 21 would make it extremely unlikely I have anything to do with top gear filming in CA.

I was just trying to point out it looks identical to my truck.

LOL, didn't pay attention to your reply.

I like the show, like I said, I don't care for the shorter (boring) track, everything else seems real good. I think they are in contract for 3 seasons (years), hopefully it will take off and humiliate the BBC
 
Thoroughly loving the new show. Glad Amazon gave them free creative reign to let their chemistry shine through. I never knew that the BBC is publicly funded and now it makes sense why Clarkson was always in so much hot water.

REALLY stoked their was resolution to the super hybrid-car shoot-out that originated back on Top Gear. Was majorly bummed when Clarkson was fired and it seemed it would not come to fruition. The ante has been upped with his house getting knocked down vs changing his name to Jennifer with the DMV.

I agree, the track seems too small and won't let the numbers between cars span out as much.
 
Started off well with the 1st episode, but man I thought they dragged that 2nd episode out for just a quick 5 minute stint on the Audi and 25 minutes of them "resetting" and starting over. Hopefully a little more creativity and fun in the rest of the season.
 
Episode 2 was funny, but I understand it can be tedious. The movie they based the skit on got a bit tedious at times because of the "resetting" deal.

For the life of me I can't find their opening sting. Not the sad slow song they used for Episode 1, but the actual Grand Tour Theme that's jazzy & bluesy. Pissin' me off as I like that song.

Man that episode made me wanna drive down to the beach. We have 60 miles of driveable beach in TX and it was BA watching them drive those buggies. I won't lie I was disappointed after all that the three of them didn't make it to the end. It was hilarious watching James May get wasted at end tho!
 
I am really happy with how the show has taken off. The first few episodes were shaky, but I knew once they got through the new show hiccups it would be fantastic.

That being said, I still think Top Gear is going to continue being the show more focused on the actual cars and will also start to really shine as they grow comfortable. A more petrolhead oriented show if you will.

I am happy that both are taking off.

Agreed. More car shows is better car shows. TG looks very very promising for the upcoming season. Could be a big-time underdog situation here if the new TG guys can strike up the same charisma as the old crew.

As for the Grand Tour...I'm not totally sold just yet. The special was fantastic, but the episodes immediately before that were not all that good. Getting their footing now though...
 
Grand Tour humor is not child appropriate. Makes it harder to watch. Have to wait for the child to go to bed. Too bad. One or two minutes of inappropriate humor that does nothing for the show ruins the entire experience. 1 star for unnecessary locker room humor.

I concur. Approaching it from a spiritually minded perspective, the show is getting harder to watch also. This was becoming the case when it aired on BBC in its last season also. A shame really, three grown (supposed to be mature) men, making sex jokes left and right. Really? Come on!

They make the joke that it's supposed to be a family show, but it's clearly evolved, or devolved, moreso, into something that is just for car guys, and maybe their ladyfriends.

That being what it is, here is my synopsis of the episodes I've seen thus far:

Episode 1: Great, good to see the guys back together again.
Episode 2: Jordan scene stretched out way too long, too much repetition, other segments were good.
Episode 3: they found their stride with this one, found myself experiencing the same feelings I've felt in previous episodes that aired on the beeb.
Episode 4: Enjoyed seeing them build their cars out of various natural resources.

I'll leave off there as I don't want to spoil anything for those who haven't seen anything from episode 5 and up.
 
Yeah... I'm actually glad its on Amazon so they can get away with that stuff. The dildo gearshift knob bit was hilarious.

I watch it on the couch curled up with my 7 year old all the time. She seems fine, but has recently began barking at hybrids.
 
I had a really hard time with this 'new' show. I have to think of it as a comedy show and not a car show, then I wont get upset. I mean, they are doing full on scripted sketches now. Yes of course Top Gear had some things that were contrived and preplanned etc but its certainly wasnt the norm.
I completely understand this after having worked in the TV industry for 13 years - planning makes things possible but the show now has absolutely lost its spontaneity and innocence.

I'm a pretty diehard Top Gear fan from years back. The show has always been a car show first and the humor was kind of a side effect of the cars being there along with these guys which made it funny as it usually wasnt expected.
Toward the end of Top Gear they were suffering from what many TV shows suffer from which they start to become a parody of themselves. A good example of this is that show 'Friends' - toward the end of their run the characters were so over the top it wasn't even funny anymore.
Like in happy days they call it 'jumping the shark' when Fonzy jumped the shark tank. They were out of ideas - the show was over.

There are a few things that I dispise about the show;
- The American: not funny. not interesting. Perpetuates a stupid stereotype that everyone already understands. Test the F&#king car already - its a car show
- Killing the guest: the guests were an interesting, humanizing component of the show in the past. Why not just abbreviate it but keep it in? Gear heads like to hear gear heads talk
- The camera fall in the opening sequence: this encapsulates the entire show....at times, totally predictable and not particularly funny or interesting

I just hope they can hit their stride and make it into something cool

I do kind of feel like Grand Tour has jumped the shark. I still watch it and I still like it but I just have to remind myself that it's a comedy show and not a car show...then I enjoy it

I agree with some of your points. I despise the American. Is he funny sometimes? Sure. But that was what made the Stig so BA was his ability to drive anything without any SPOKEN commentary. Just let the car speak for itself and what it can do.

Now I read somewhere that they can't really follow the same recipe because they can get sued for infringing Top Gear. Whatever they do, the show will never be the same. I rewatched a lot of the old seasons and it does get really episodic as you watch more episodes. It's a blessing and a curse the way we watch TV shows when we can view a whole series all at once

agree agree - good points.

I dont think anyone genuinely wants the same same forever but we would like an evolution of the show of which Grand Tour is not IMHO
