The great rear spring debate..

So I'm looking to buy rear springs for my 4runner. While reading through tons of forums I've heard many mixed reviews. What do you think the best rear spring option would be for mainly street driving with occasional offroading. Also they would have to match up great with Icon coilovers and Icon rear shocks.

1. Icon 2" springs
2. Toytec Superflex 2" springs
3. Metal Tech LT 2" springs
4. All Pro 2" springs
5. SAW 1.5" springs

Metaltech progressives seems like a good choice but you really can't go wrong with OME as well.

So I've narrowed it down to either Icon or Metal Tech Springs. Would it be a noticeable difference with the Icons or Metal Techs? I found a set of used icons that I'm probably going to pull the trigger on, but the Metal Techs are getting hyped up right now with the dual spring rate. Any suggestions? pro/cons? which would you choose of the two? :ear:

if you really like the idea of metal techs id say get them. don't buy icons or any other option when what you really want is metal tech, youll just end up switching down the road. go with your heart

Icon also sells an "overland" version for the FJ that's 3" lift but made to soak up 1" with cargo and then ride at the 2" height.

I just picked picked up some used Icon 2" springs to replace my FJ springs with 1.5" daystar spacers and I couldn't be happier with them.

If I were made of money I would get the Metal Tech long travel kit though hwell:

I wouldn't be doing the whole long travel rear. I would only run the springs. I called metal tech today and they said i would be fine running the L/T springs with my Icon 2.0 shocks even though they're not extended length. I just know you cant go wrong with Icons and I can get them for cheaper than the metal techs because they are used. Just trying to think of which spring will go better with that shock.

I'm running the MT LT springs with the Icon 2.0 extended travel and I love the way the rear rides loaded and unloaded. I had the entire thing loaded full of camping gear last weekend and they stayed perfect. I can't comment on the Icons, but compared to the Superflex springs it's night and day.

That's great to hear I think i might just wait and get the MT LT springs... Everyone has nothing but amazing things to say about them. DO you think they would work fine with my Icon being a standard length and not extended length?

I don't see why not. They only lift 2" and the standard Icon is good for 2" of lift. Your only limiting factor is going to be that extra droop so as long as you aren't slamming them out I think you'll be fine.

If using these springs on road w/ no added weight are very rigid.
Mine didn't smooth out until adding a rear bumper, and I have full plates underneath.

Are these the springs you ordered for the rear?

Medium Duty Spring Specs:
Free Length - 19.25"
Bottom Coil Rate - 250lbs
Top Coil Rate - 105lbs
Lift Height - 2"

Yes those are the springs i ordered for the rear. I've probably read every thread that's out there for these on so many different forums. Everyone that has them swears by them so figured i might as well believe the hype. I also love the fact that they have a specific spring for each side to prevent the uneven lean 4runners get. In the front I have Camburg uniball upper arms and Icon 2.5 extended travel coilovers, also Icon 2.0 shocks for the rear. Waiting to get everything together so i can rebuild all my shocks and put everything on at once. I am currently running 2010 FJ TT springs w/ bilstein shocks, maxtrac spindles and daystar rear spacers. Can't wait to get everything hooked up!

Hey man- How is the MT LT Medium setup?

I have the Icon 2" rear springs and I'm getting a good amount of sag in the back when loaded up with camping gear and dogs. I don't have a rear bumper.

Trying to decide between the Medium and Heavy so I'm curious what your thoughts are after having them for awhile.

Rather than start a new spring thread, thought I'd post up here. Is there a "true" 1.5" of lift in the rear? SAW (wheeleroffroad.com) claims 1.5" for their T12 but people reported 2" of lift. Are these the only 1.5" rear springs that are available to us?

Did you look at wheelers T13 spring?
