The Grinch slashed my tires!

Yesterday on Christmas Eve I parked my 03 Sport (V8 4WD) at the train station in Norwalk (the Metrolink system's station) before I went to work. I parked underneath security cameras that were rolling and in a very secluded area, next to a bus depot.

I had a half-day at work, so I came back around 3:15 PM. To my surprise, guess what? Three of my four tires were all deflated. I also saw the fourth one about to go. I checked closely, thinking "maybe I just lost some air"...and I felt air coming out of a small hole from the tire itself.

A number of workers doing renovation work on the station noticed my tires losing air as early as 11 AM.

The public safety officer made a note of it in his log. I'm about to file a police report.

Meantime I had AAA tow the truck to my home.
Tomorrow, I'm off to look for a new set of tires!

Now I have questions for new tires to replace the Dunlop Grandtreks that got slashed. I do 75-80% highway driving and 20-25% off-roading or in snow. What tire to pick?

Dude...that sucks!!!

At least you didn't get your entire car stolen like a friend of mine did....they parked at a metrolink (train station) here in St. Louis and their car was stolen in broad daylight on a Saturday afternoon.

I just bought a pair of Bridgestone AT Revos P265/75 R16's for my wife's '98 4Runner and they are great!!! Highly recommend them.

They may be hard to find though.

Good Luck.

Thanks for the advice!

I got the tire guys to look at it, and they found that my tires got punctured a bit, they didn't get slashed deep enough for all of the tire to be replaced.

Just a hole or two punched through each of the four tires.

$70 total took care of it.

All patched, all ready to go. The first major test of the patched up tires is going to be next week when I drive to the Bay Area and back. So far I've driven them a bit today, and so far no air pressure is lost.

At least I won't have to replace tires now...but maybe next year. These Grandtreks lose tread quickly. I don't expect them to last beyond 25000 miles.

Ed,

I would ditch the Grandtreks. They are crap. Especially with plugs in them. Were the holes in the tread or sidewall?

BUY THE REVO'S

I put mine on in September and they are amazing tires. Aggressive, yet quiet and they really grab dry, wet, sand, all conditions.
