Hello Everyone,

I'm Abbott ("hi abbott") I have a skiing and dh biking problem. Summers we do shuttle laps on mountain passes for dh trails and in the winter I tow my sleds(cheaper and better than heli skiing), so I need something to get me to these places, which is not normally easily accessible. This is my second 3rd gen, first one had 265/75/16s, the same thule box and many comfort mods for the massive amount of road tripping I did in college. I have since owned a Chevy Colorado(hated it) and a Sportsmobile Powerstroke 4x4. Wish I still had the Sportsmobile, but my Condo HOA decided against it after letting me park it there for more than a year. Oh well, now I've got another 3rd gen. I haven't had a camera to take pictures with, but finally got one to use and can fill you in of where I am at along the process. It started bone stock and I've done everything myself.

Stoked with everything so far, getting the tires not to rub took some pounding, but the rims I have are 3.5" backspaced. I wouldn't have gone with that big of backspacing, but I got a set of 5 brand new for 200, was too cheap to pass up. I got the Treadwrights because I'm a hippy who lives way far up in the mountains and I love the idea of a sustainable tire. We'll see how it works, if it sucks, I'll let yall know, but these gd's have a great tread and are very quiet. Am I going to gear this? Yes, but not before I supercharge it. I will still probably go with 4.88's, but I want to see what is really needed after the vehicle is supercharged. I don't drive daily, maybe once a week, so the rush to get it geared and charged isn't there. Other than that, bumpers, paint job, and a taco front end conversion are whats on tap. The vehicle was dirt cheap(5k with only 100k) but has some blems in the hood, fenders, and corner lights so it makes sense to just make my way to Certifit next time I drive through Denver. Anyone know of another auto body parts distributor with similar prices but on the Western Slope of CO, G. Junction, Montrose, Durango? Thanks to everyone for all the threads and information on this site, as it has been very useful in my build thus far.

I think it looks better than the silver, but glossy might have been a better choice than plastidip. I think plastidip is a great product, just gives the vehicle a xterra feel rather than a more luxurious 4runner, whats the word I'm looking for... cheap? Kidding. The body flares don't work for me either, after taco front end and full paint, I'll be taking her to line x. They can color match, so I'm thinking some body accent/pin stripes, to just cover the holes could look good. The rear fender flares will match the desert dune with the rest of the car. I cant seem to find another option on a flare for the rear that would match the taco's built in flare, but cover the holes, any suggestions? I'm guessing the limited flares are what I'll have to stick with, which will end up involving fiberglass and bondo to do so.
 
Nice 4Runner dude! Looked like you've got nice plans and a great start already. And btw I love Telluride....wish I lived there.
 
my buddy has been using his 4runner as a shuttle rig. Thule 4 bike rack on the hitch, and he wants to put another 2 bike hitch on the front.

whats your downhill setup if you dont mind me asking?

forgot about that rule ;): oh, and it needs to have a playing card in the spokes, and some sick handlebars and grips!

its kinda like you saying that nothings better than a Buick regal lifted on 26's, where as my downhill bike has more suspension travel than most cars on the road today. :biggrin2:

but back on topic, sweet looking shuttle truck! and I still wanna see pictures of the downhill bike!!!

DH is fun, but you go down the mountain on a XC bike thats 6 years old, it gets mildy uncomforatble and sh!t breaks.

Mr. Silverbullet bikes too, but all he's got is a hardtail and buttload of parts and All mountain frame stuff.

Taking a little road trip to Telluride and surrounding areas in November. Would love to see some pics on trails in the area... :hungry:

And very jealous of the 35's!
 
How about a Pee Wee Herman 3speed bike with a sissy bar?
I need a bike rack myself, cheapest I found so far was $112 for a double rack on the back hitch.
 
Yeah actually my drinking bike is like a pee wee herman bike, its got a bell, a bike pump charged air horn, poker cards taped to the frame, hahaha. There are a ton of trails around here, I only know the biking trails though, besides the mtn passes. I actually just got a new bike, its a Transition tr250, its more of a mini dh platform 7" travel, but at 36 pounds and the regearing I have done to it, I have zero problems riding it on some xc trails, though i prefer gravity. We have a good dh park thats accessed by the gondola, only place in the world that has free lift accessed dh biking. Heres a pic of my bike(Larry Bird was the focal point, 60lb 4 mo old pyrenees/lab mix):

Yeah my buddies got a Transition Dirtbag, thing is horrible on the XC trails, dude you gotta drink on the dh bike, then hit some jumps and stairs, mad fun!
