the horrible gas milage my 04 is getting

ridiculous and is gonna force me to sell it...my 2001 camaro ss is getting better gas mileage then my 4 runner..i might as well be driving a f••king tundra...any one else feel this way? and/or have a f••king solution?

Give us more info about what mileage you're getting, conditions you drive in, maintenance performed, etc. City you should be getting 16 or so and highway you should be getting 22ish. That's with normal maintenance having been performed (plugs, air filters, proper tire pressure, etc).

my driving conditions are the same now as they were when i was getting fantastic mileage...the plugs are new as of last year...it only gets driven fall to spring....the plugs are toyota plugs..running synthetic oil...fixed my frozen caliper..seafoamed the sh!t ou of it...tire pressure is at 35...air filter is fairly new..and there is a lot of highway driving....my girlfriend lives in delaware

i have an iPhone app that keeps track of my maintenance and also has a gas log and is very accurate...here are pictures of the log..i fill up at 1/4

Maybe I dont undrestand how the app works but how did you get 52mpg and then get 4mpg?

I could definitely see those two screw-ups, otherwise I'm not sure what it is.....I noticed when I was on alot of hills/city driving I (obviously) get worse mileage, say around 15.2-16.8mpg.
How hard to you "stomp on it" when you accelerate? that can have a significant part too....if you're slamming the pedal down hard all the time to accelerate or get past people, that could explain part of it.

I drive fairly conservatively and I still don't get the best mileage. I'm also 2WD.....

My mpgs hang right around 18.5 to 19.5. I do alot of freeway commuting but also get the same mileage if i go on a roadtrip through the mountains. Im fairly hsrd on the skinney pedal too.

So do you track your mileage with the app only or is the app just display hand calculated data?

I see some lower mileage, but then some that is up around 16mpg.

FWIW my 2004 4 runner has 138K on it. I've only put about 1500 miles on in since I bought it.

Most of my driving lately has been short trips (about 4 miles each way) and I've been getting about 15.5-16.5 mpg.

If all of your calculations are correct I'd be looking at other things. I don't know much about Seafoam, but have heard conflicting data. Try running a few tanks without it and see if that helps?

the app is as accurate as hand calculation...and i don't use sea foam constantly...you use it like one in a while...but i used to get like 17.7mpg to like 20mpg or so..im talkin 350 370 miles on a full tank i would get....it puzzles my mind how it can get this bad...and I'm sure the ethanol doesn't help...thanks to the f••king hippie douche bags

I think I read on the board some where that if you use the high mileage plugs in the V6, MPG suffers. It has something to do with how "hot" the plugs are, a spec thing. General concesus was to NOT use the the high mileage plugs. Not sure if this helps, but verify the proper plugs were installed. I think the high mileage plugs where spec'ed for the V8, not the V6.

Change the spark plugs, I did that to mine and WOW, what a difference. I saw a a 1.5-2 mpg increase.

the plugs are stock and i did them myself...i called toyota and told them i need plugs for a 2004 v6 and they gave me plugs...never mentioned anything about high mileage
