Is not far in the future. It will be electric, each wheel driven by a dedicated, independently controlled electric motor. There will be no need for a transmission, no open or locking differentials, no transfer case, etc. none of that nonsense. Will Tesla make it?

Doubtful Tesla would make it, but I have mentioned a similar idea to some people on the future of EV vehicles.

This would be the ideal way to go. It'd probably benefit from a design similar to this:

As it would maximize the potential of individual wheel travel/propulsion. The only issue is the design would be too radical for the public anytime soon. Not to mention EV technology is still too unreliable to trust on the trail.

Nothing unreliable about electric motors. The laptop-type batteries have been around for a while, and if they're reliable enough for Boeing, they should be more than ok for terrestrial vehicles too.

Yeah... not according to all the Rav4 EV (basically Tesla parts in a Rav4 body) issues I have seen, the battery and motor issues I hear about from my friends who work for Tesla. Not to mention the over-all issues that they have with the other systems.

Yeah... Boeing's had some issues with lithium-ion batteries recently with their dream-liner... something about catching fire if I remember right.

It's all stuff that will get ironed out and tweaked as time goes on, so I'm not worried.

I would hope so with a $2.5 billion budget.

my ultimate go anywhere truck would be something like a Oshkosh M-ATV, but made from aluminum. independent AC electric motors in each wheel with dynamic braking and mechanical braking. id want it powered by a fuel source, whether that be a small 2 stroke diesel hooked up to an AC generator or a fuel cell. whatever.

i don't need it to be bullet proof, and id like the windows to roll down. id also like a slightly longer wheel base with a pickup bed on it
