Jeep's Diesel Land Rover Knockoff Might Be Cooler Than A Real Defender

The Jeep Africa is supposed to be "the ultimate Jeep Wrangler for back-country and overland expeditions." It's a sloped-roof station wagon Wrangler with 35" tires and a 2.8 liter diesel engine.

This Desert Tan Wrangler Unlimited features a high-clearance steel winch bumper, power rock rails (which will be very interesting to see in action), and a power dome vented hood. The body's extended a bit off a regular four-door Wrangler and the roof is not removable.

Fox shocks, a 2" lift kit, sway bar links, and Dana 44 axles, limb risers, a full-length roof rack and a bedliner'd interior finish it out.

Every year Jeep brings funky one-off prototypes to the "Easter Jeep Safari" event in Moab, Utah. It's basically the biggest scheduled gathering of Jeep nerds in America, and for 2015 (March 28 to April 5th) we'll see seven of these concepts in action.

Man, I have to say it.... I have been to 3 Easter Jeeps and every year Jeep brings a couple awesome prototypes with them. They get the interwebs buzzing about how perfect of a vehicle they have come up with.... and EVERY time they run 10-12 months of marketing and then ditch the vehicle. the have never turned one of these pipe dreams into a real vehicle you can own. its a massive Jeep tease.

I was there for one photo shoot (it took place during the FJ Summit) in mountain village. (see Below)

When I talked to the people setting up the shoot I expressed my anger in yet another bunch of "never gonna happen" Jeeps. He (Jessie S.) said its all part of the game, these vehicles are built from the marketing budget, not the R&D budget. he said for a real production model it takes them more than 5 years to launch.

I may be a Toyota guy, but I'm first a car guy, and I love me (ad have owned several) Jeeps. But com'on already, produce at least one.

It is aggravating, and I think all manufacturers are guilty to some degree. Bring awesome, cool stuff to shows, but only offer bland, watered down products for sale.

I like that Jeep. My first thought when seeing the back opened up was that this is a throwback to the Willy's Wagon days...

And I'd have one of those new J10s in my drive instead of the Ram if they would have made it! :crybaby:

well its based on the jeep wrangler unlimited so its has the best potential to becoming reality body wise.

the under pinning's might not quite make it, but the cab might.

that is so much a throwback to the old defenders that they could steal the thunder from LR/RR with all those fancy Evoque's and mall crawlers of today.
