cRaptor and ***** Wagon are different animals with totally different suspension setups.

One has a heavy duty suspension purportedly designed for off road use and abuse, but it is long and wide and prone to high centering.

The other has a long travel suspension with extremely responsive heavy duty shocks meant for driving fast across deserts in a manner that will void the warranty and break everything on the truck.

Both are seriously impractical for day to day use because of their massive size but they make their intended statement and they sell.

I didn't have my 2016 4Runner long enough to rack up a ton of miles, so I never had any mechanical repairs done.
I do however still have my 05 Tacoma which with less than 100K miles had the valve cover gaskets replaced, the timing cover seeps oil, and the lower coolant bypass hose need to be replaced. Do you think this is reasonable based on all the historical claims that Toyota is so bullet proof or would you consider the above just maintenance items that would need to be performed on most trucks with that kind of milage?

It does... and it works well. You can lock/unlock the car by touching the door handle, and start the car, without ever having to remove the key or fob from your pocket.

It's pretty nice, once you have it, you don't really want to go back.

My 2020 Rav4 TRD OR has the push button start. I'm not a fan.
There is a delay when trying to unlock the passenger door. It's easier / faster to unlock the drivers door, then hit the button on the inside door panel to unlock the passenger doors.

That passenger door unlock feature was way faster on my 2017 Jetta. In the Jetta, if you place your hand in the outside door handle twice fast and all 4 door open. Not so with my Toyota Rav4.

For me it's faster to just hit the key fob with a real key, as you walk up to the vehicle and unlock all the doors.

Yes, I bought it new. But with all the talk (myself included) about Jeep and Ford quality being sub par, it had me thinking about the Tacoma and what is really reasonable to expect as far a repairs go and what crosses the line to POS status. I am not certain at this point to be honest.

Don’t know what to tell you. I’ve had nothing but Toyotas since 1982. Drove a lot of miles, never had any of the problems you mentioned. Hardly had problems of any type, to be honest.

For me it's faster to just hit the key fob with a real key, as you walk up to the vehicle and unlock all the doors.

It's not like you have to use any of this... it still comes with a regular fob & key and you can still operate in the exact same manner as a car without it.

I kept using the fob for a while out of habit... and on occasion still do for the same reason as you mentioned.

That said, if I got my hands full with the keys in my pocket, I just have more options than someone without it.

-My 2001 4Runner was mostly trouble free
-I had two T/O bearings shit the bed on my 2007 FJ Cruiser and the paint went bad.
-My 2nd gen Taco hasn't had issues, but it lives in Hanalei, is garaged most of the year, and has roll down windows
-My 2013 TE has had persistent door lock issues, the LCAs rusted in place and had to be replaced, and the CV axles shit the bed at 90k miles of hard off road use
-My 2010 FJC was used and had a bad t-case acutator that was an easy fix

The other annoying part of the push button start on the Rav4 is you have to have your foot on the brake pedal to start the vehicle. It won't start otherwise.

With my 4Runner, I can just reach in with my key and start the vehicle. No need to fully get in, sit down, and use the brake pedal to start it.

True...but how often you have to do that? vs. the DAILY convenience of keyless entry and push start.

Call me a pimple-popping kid (i am not), but i agree with some above about push start. Once you use it daily, it is hard to go back to the old ways.

And i have had push start for years on different branded cars...none has failed. Yes, the remote battery can go bad but you can still unlock car and start car without issue.

I don't know how they are doing it on the newer Toyota trucks, but the Limited 4Runner and LC both have hidden keys inside the fob.

It would be really silly to no longer offer an analog key. If they started doing that, I would also object to it.
