I'm not going to vote but I will explain why. First and foremost I think every rig looks 10x better without them. Problem is they come in handy, especially like mentioned above if you or your significant other is short. I am 6' and with my lift/tires it's not a problem getting into it, but I still notice its a big step up. My fiance on the other hand is 5' and she has to grab the handle and sort-of jump up in. Now if this were a weekend/offroad toy I wouldn't mind but I do feel bad for her since it's still our family vehicle at this point. I don't regret taking the boards off, but I wish I would have kept them because I would probably put them back on for the time being and take them off only when I was going wheeling.

^I totally agree with all of that. I'm 6'2" and have no problem getting into my truck but i don't have a lift. But anyway when it comes to taking the running boards off a black vehicle it sucks cause it gets dirtier a lot faster and since i live near seattle and it's always raining, my truck is usually dirty a day or two after i wash it! I think the 3rd gen runner looks awesome without running boards!
 
Take 'em off, leave 'em off!

No regrets as of yet. My fishin buddy is only 5'9" and has bad hips. I told him he'd have to bring along a bucket :p
 
3rd Gen drop em! I only regretted dropping mine when it came to going anywhere with my grand father. I always just had to drive his car. The 4th Gen is a dif story. I dont think it matters either way.
 
I recently took mine off (2 days ago) and I still notice the step up but mostly I just notice how awesome my 96 looks! My lady friend didn't notice them gone at first (she's 5'2") but when she went to get out and had to slide down the seat she asked me if something was different haha. SOOOOO looks best with them off but I think they can be useful for an everyday driver.

Do people over 5'11" really use them to get in and out?

I never used mine once. I'm like 6'2" so it might make a difference.
 
i'm like 5'9 and can get in easy. my girlfriend is like 5 even or at most 5'2ish? and she can get in easy. but i do have the shorter coils on my 4runner if it matters.

if i ever lifted mine i would deff put them back on though or probably buy some nerf bars or something.
 
I vote ditch them. I had mine on for a few years but I like the way the truck looks lifted with them off. I do like the ladies short and they always have something to say about it.
 
I took mine off because every time i got done wheeling and would get out of my truck my pants would get dirty as hell when i got out

Well then I'll throw you for a loop. If you have the crappy grey plastic running boards I say ditch em and sell em. They're ugly and usless. But if you have the nice one that are painted to match I'd say do what you want with em but hang on to em. Considering it take 15 mins (for me) to take off and put on my running boards, I take em off when I go wheelin and put em on when I get home. Practicality aside, I'm kind of a faced person when it comes to the runner. I think it looks great both as a street machine and an offroading beast. But as far as being pratical goes, I think everyone should take em off because fat chicks cant jump :bigok: :lmao:

If i was a soccer mom or really old man id keep them (maybe) but i hate the running boards on any vehicle
