The Saddest Day of My Life (HIT AND RUN)

So the detective and the insurance both talked to the apparent offender and he finally fessed up to hitting my car. I guess he was leaving the bar and was mad that he and his girlfriend had just gotten into a fight and broke up........ damn women.

State Farm got me a nice Highlander and are figuring out if $15,130 is enough to total my car out. I will know something by Thursday.

My advise to anyone.......stay on them like flies on S%it

So State Farm actually came back with an offer of $20,246.13 as the truck sits. If I take out the stereo and back-up camera including the Focal speakers it drops down to $19,084.56. This INCLUDES tag and tax.

Any thoughts or input?

dude, go to walmart and buy the CHEAPEST radio you can, and swap radios... tell them to stick it where the sun dont shine.
if you dont have a rider on your policy, for the stereo, a radio is a radio to them.
IMHO Id take the cash, you can get a replacement for 20K

Personally I'd leave the 5495, you can get much better units nowadays. I got rid of my 5495 within a year of getting it. Depending on if you had the front and rear K2P's and the amp installed you might want to pull them, depending on the type of deal you can find to replace them.

Loan value for a replacement is around $14k. The cheapest one I can find is over $20k. At that point I will be breaking even with my loan payoff and haven't even put my mods on.

UGGGHHHH

One will never get the value of mods back. You just got to forget the mods. Insurance companies use generic values for everything. I just spent ~1k on 5 tires. Just a tire to them.

Use comparable trucks as a baseline for evaluating their offer. If all the trucks with 150 miles with similar trim and factory options and mileage are the price they are offering, that is fair.

If the settlement is less, they are trying to low ball you. Negotiate and politely state what comparables go for.

strip everything and put some cheap stockies in there, i did it to mines b4 the insurance towed it, took all my 6 grand+ in stereo out and then into the new 4runner.

haggled back and forth with State Farm for days about what we would settle for. They would not budge an inch. i went and spent about 3 hours this afternoon taking my various mods off of the car and I guess will give into their price.

Talked with a lawyer and he said I could take them to court but if we lost i would be responsible for paying him AND paying for the other lawyer.

AND.....prices of 4Runners are through the roof. The gap between loan value and what these cars are going for is amazing

Jeff-

You did your best trying to work with State Farm. Kudo's for trying.

The best thing, and hard to do, is to start to let it go. You will find another truck. As you know, prices are falling. Note the "ing" part. The truck market is not getting better and values will continue to fall.

Before anyone spanks me, note I am a realist, not a pessimist. My opinion is based on a lot of reading on the economy, bank and finance markets and paying attention to the trends. There is a ways to go before things stabilize and even longer before values will start to improve.
