TOday was a work from home day, and I finished early!!

so I did a quick mod, and cut off the back of the scoop insert. Now the scoop will actually function. and If ie ever want to close it up, I made the cuts as simple as possible and it can be jb welded right back on.

figure any extra air flow can only help during the hot summer months (Houston)

only work was pulling the scoop out of the hood, didnlt have to break it down at all.

oh and the beginnings of my external trans cooler. still debating to keep it separate from the Radiator, or add it in line...

Lamer, I really like your build. I'm not sure how I have not seen this before today. Anyways, great job.

I like your hood scoop mod. I have been considering getting a sport hood and doing this exact thing. Have you noticed any difference in coolant of engine temps?

Hey thanks Durwin! I've been out of touch with updating this for a while, these last few mods have taken some time to set up so I didn't have updates for a while.

I did the scoop cut mod to better ehlp heat exit the engine bay during the hot summer months Houston typoically has. I haven't noticed much in terms of engine temps, but since I put in the lower thermostat in I have dropped 20deg on average.

right now, I am watching my tranny temps carefully as I just installed the transgo shift kit, the inline temp sensor and inline external B&M Cooler.

I have a 3rz (4cyl) and recently installed a LCE low boost supercharger, and have noticed my coolant temps (as per scangauge) are about 5 degrees warmer. Which is why I'm interested in the 'hood scoop mod', in hopes it would allow some engine heat to escape, and/or allow a little more air flow across through the engine bay while driving.

that was a typo, meant to say "...help heat..."

the scoop mod will help but you probably wont see much effect on the coolant as that is inside the engine. the best way to go is cooler t-stat.
I went with this 170deg t-stat:
Amazon.com: Stant 14077 Thermostat - 170 Degrees Fahrenheit: Automotive

BUT!!!! you don't have much boost, and not much of a change in temps, so if anything a 180deg t-stat would suffice.

(I also don't know the compatibility across these engines for the t-stat, so make sure it fits your engine before buying.)

Okay, been a while.
had some stalling issues recently, code came up P340 (I think) for the camshaft position sensor so replaced that last weekend.

Also gave the throttle body a thorough cleaning this morning based on wise words from other members. thanks again!

lets see how it goes.

I have a new fuel filter on the way also, been a minute since thats been replaced...
