The"stink" issue again

Falls

I took my 4R to the dealer for the sulfer , rotten smell when driving with the rear window down.

They will not fix it per the TSB bulletin says only if the check engine light is on.( MIL light)

What should I do ? I would like to email Toyota or something or suggestions from you all.

where can I find a current TSB ? The one they printed out for me was from Feb. 2003 . it has a code of EG003-03 on the TSB I was given.

I literally can not drive with my back window down. Its not constant but it smells bad when taking off from a light , sitting at a stop light , slowing down ect.. when just at a constant speed its not bad at all.

Is there another dealer nearby that you can take it to? I got the TSB performed on my 05 w/o the check engine light on - & no questions from the dealer.

Many have done that . I could try another dealer.

I've found TSB's here for 03 , 04 , ect.... is there a specific one for 06 ?

I just called Toyota cust. service , they assigned me a case # and are going to have the dealer customer relations manager call me .

I hope I can resolve this

It is in the manual. The bigger issue is even if you remove the smell, when you drive with the back window down you are still sucking in exhaust.

Not really very healthy.

Falls, the TSB doesn't say anything about a check engine (MIL) light needing to be on. Maybe they are looking at an old TSB? I just had the work done on mine and brought in the printed out TSB. Attached is a pdf copy..

Why would the TSB not fix the problem ? I realize the exhaust comes out the back and get sucked in the back window so it goes without saying I guess.

I called Toyota , they called the dealer , the dealer called me 1/2 hour later and have the parts on order. Very fast easy response to my phone call.

Sometimes its so bad , so I hope it lights up so I can atleast drive with the rear window open.

The TSB doesn't fix the problem, it is just a pacifier.

This is true. It helped tremendously, but it does crop up periodically. Suprisingly I haven't smelled it in a few months but I've also been riding my bike more.

I'm just hoping to diminish it quite a bit , I'm sure I'll catch a wif here and there , but now when I step on the gas or pulling a load , at stop sign ect.... yikes. If there is no wind and I'm just crusing its 90% ok

seriously? that's like the best part of owning my new T4R compared to my old explorer. Its like a convertible!

The rear spoiler is directed to push air across the back window to keep it clean , so if you have exhaust fumes back there and they rise like they should and the back window is down it pushes that air into the cabin.

Me neither. And I'm glad I don't. IMO they have no place on a vehicle like this. I don't mean to offend anyone, just my $0.02.

I would like to get rid of mine , but then I wont have a 3rd brake light . Its easy for them to do and fill the holes and respray it. My son can do it for nothing except materials.
