The supercharger rebuild, seals and couplers.

So I rebuilt my supercharger and figured I would share the write up with you guys. I did not replace the bearings because they had no play in them what so ever. I had to replace the seal in the nose cone. This thread is intended as a helping hand and not an official instruction manual;)

First thing is first, I placed a cardboard canal under the supercharger assembly so I could have the oil run down that into a separate oil collection device...or a parts holder. Which ever wording you decide.

Contrary to popular opinion, you can do this rebuild with the supercharger still on the truck. I know some people just took the whole thing off but you don't have to. Moving forward you can see that I have loosened up the bolts and the oil has flowed into my parts bin.

Here is the nose cone off of the assembly. Notice how I only pulled the front off and not the whole section where all the internals are in. That's the silver block that sits in between the cone and the assembly, which is shown in the picture below.

Once that is all off and you've got your nose cone on a work bench you can take the coupler off, they are easy to just slide right off.

Here it is off.

Easy peasy. Next step is to take the pulley off and the seal as well. Use the correct size wrench to take off the nut holding on the pulley. It should come right off. Once that's off and out of the way there's a retaining clip in there, it'll come out with the help of some needle nose pliers.

Now what I did to pull out the seal was I drilled a hole big enough for my slide hammer to get on to, and with a couple soft smacks it came right out.

Now putting the new seal is as easy as taking it out, I took a deep socket that fit around the whole bolt and softly tapped it in with a rubber mallet. That way it was properly seated and ready to go. Here's the new seal in place, don't forget to put the retaining clip back into place.

Next step is putting the anaerobic gasket maker onto the seating area between the nose cone and the blower assembly. It should be applied as follows,

Next you are going to install it to your assembly. Now I know it's obvious to some people but to others that are a little less mechanically inclined, the coupler holes line up with the metal studs on the gears. Here's a picture of that. The red circles are what needs to be matched up.

Now the last step is filling up the oil. It doesn't take much, but as always you want to make sure that you're putting enough in. Refer to your manual to ensure maximum assurance when filling up the oil. Hope you guys find this helpful.

Awesome how-to Dirtyfingers.
infamousRNR I need to rebuild my main unit. My rear bearings are getting loud, not the nose cone. Thanks for the heads up though, good how to bookmarked now.

If you want to get to the rear bearings you have to take off everything from the front if I'm not mistaken. And thank you. I hope some will find this very helpful

Bringing this one back to life!

I'm about to change the seal on mine. My question is: is the pulley something that had to be pressed back on or is it the nut that holds it on? Basically, I will be renting a pulley puller to get it off (assuming I need one) but does it simply just tap back on or do I need something fancy to get it back on? I do not have a press or any relevant power tools, just a big can of elbow grease.

WI'll this write up also work on the 1st gen supercharger? All parts are the same except for the oil drail/ fill plug location and the outside shape of the supercharger right?

It's the same pretty much. You have a 3rd gen eaton m62. If you want a really good in depth write up just google "3rd gen eaton m62 rebuild" it doesn't matter what it's for they are all the same. This one is a 4th gen M62 so it is slightly different.
