The "Use the search" comments...

We have a lot of people here looking for a lot of different types of information. Some people are accustomed to a message board setup and some people are not. If you've never seen a message board before the various options available to you can be daunting and confusing. Even for advanced users the whole "search" option can give more useless information than viable ones.

I would suggest to the newer members here to post information and relavent comments to all members asking questions. The whole "search!" only makes the person asking the question feel like a jerk, and they probably won't ask another one ever again.

Feel free to educate them about the search option, but don't chastise them if they don't.

Drew's right. Maybe you could search the topic for them, and paste the thread where the person can find the answer they are looking for.

just tell them what to search and where the button is at. dont just hand it to em cause then they'll keep doing it until someone tells them to search, granted, the search feature sucks on vbulliten. seriously, if someone tells you to search cause its been covered, do your feelings get hurt? i hope not.

there is no malitous(spell) meaning telling someone to search. wonder why there are post to a simple question with 100 views and no replies? it also is based on how they word you word your post. if its a one line statement/question with no info on make/model or background to the problem, ill just say search. i am not going to try to pry the info out of someone. same goes for the detailed postings, lots of info=lots of help!

post lots of info in your questions and dont get but hurt when someone tells you to search, DAAAAANG!!

i am one of those people who frequently suggests the search function and the reason is not to get post count up but because i have used it and found the exact answer to the question the person is asking.

Sometimes i get tired of seeing people post threads about tires, there are sooo many of them and most of them all say the same thing, just pick the thread that best suits your needs and post your question and continue that thread.

Maybe that thread doesnt properly answer your specific question, you could go for someone who posted in the thread and PM them a question and i guarantee that 98% of the time they could answer your question or at least point you in the right direction.

An easy rule of thumb is just search before you start a thread and go through the result threads and see what their all about.

Also just a suggestion is if you post a thread and have searched, let people know you have tried searching. Well I did asshole and it wasn't there.

I think we just need to try and help ourselves a little before posting a question and also try searching and see what results pop up before yelling search to someone.

There are times I have tried to search and just found info on 4th gen and not sure if it applies to me on a 3rd gen. I will post a question and get the ever so frindly response of SEARCH! Well I did asshole and it wasn't there.

you can post in those threads as well, they may have 4th gens but alot of 4th gen owners are very knowlagable about other 4runners as well, no ones going to bash you for posting in the general discussion area.
