The Wonders of a new TPS (Throttle Position Sensor)

A couple of years ago, I noticed my rig sputtering. I did get a CEL and when I checked it, it said TPS. Being lazy and impatient, I went to Advance and picked one up.

Fast forward 12-18 months. My rig just did not seem to be acting right and seemed to sputter when started up and cold. It hesitated in the first 100 yards or so. Having changed plugs, cables, etc., I knew they could not be the issue.

I splurged and decided as part of PM, I would buy the OEM TPS sensor at $67+tax. I disconnected the battery, changed the sensor, hooked the battery back up and WOW.....

My rig runs like new. This little iddy biddy sensor does a lot more than we think. Shifting is better, gas mileage is better and the truck "feels" like it runs better......

Again, I know this is a "no-brainer" for most of us on this forum but I have learned the lesson I usually forget; get the OE parts if and when you can afford them. It makes a difference and NO - I DO NOT WORK FOR TOYOTA!!! I am not promoting the exorbitant prices of the stealership but they must put gypsy tears in their parts because there IS a difference!!!!

I have been noticing our 4r seems to surge sputter initially then its fine. Wonder if its this.

I learned my lesson buying non toyota stuff dealing with emissions problems. Found the TPS OEM Toyota on the "AMAZON rainforest" site for under $40 bucks shipped with Prime.

Your title should have included "OEM". Lesson learned. I have to ask though how much confidence you have in your 4 seasons heater control valve.

I have a new OEM TPS bought from a parts sale on CL. May just have to put it on.

Little Caeser, the FourSeasons heater control valve works fine. I just dipped it in LiquidMoly and it works like a champ....(You know I had to joke)

Seriously, it's fine. I also took a syringe full of liquid teflon lubricant and injected it into the cable sleeve for the heater control cable. (The tolerance between the steel cable and the sleeve was so tight, only a needle would get in there...) Injected about 3 cc's of the teflon and it works like new.
