From what I can understand from my new owners manual, my '06 T4R comes with an anti-theft system that essentially makes the engine inoperable and will make some honking noise if someone breaks into my truck.
I'm thinking that I probably don't need an aftermarket alarm system beyond that. The truck will be in a locked garage at night.
Plus I don't think Anchorage has any chop shops, and if you steal a vehicle, where are you going to take it to "escape". It wouldn't make it across the border to Canada without the State Troopers getting it first.
My Porsche has an aftermarket alarm system. One evening I was at a restaurant and set the alarm. Apparently that was the last of the juice in the remote. When I tried to leave, the alarm went off and I couldn't turn it off. So I drove all the way home (12 miles through the city) with the alarm blaring and the lights flashing (and this is a red Porsche). No one stopped me, and I got home and turned it off with the spare remote.
So, what's the point of an aftermarket alarm in my situation?
